Its a curiosity question,,, i usually get the chills while hunting in the northeast in january its mostly single digits then ad the windchill,, my normal dress code is a light base layer under a heavy base layer, fleece lined jeans under a heavy fleece cabelas pant or a johnson wool heavy trouser, so 4 layers at the waste down.
Im usually not a brand name person, but i need a bib bottom where i can put it on over my regular fleece or flannel lined jeans then head into the stand and not listen to my teeth play morse code with my longjohns all afternoon.
Im looking for a bib and parka set that i can put on over street or work clothes,, needs to be stickbow close & quiet, wind repellent im close to
The ocean sometimes one spot i can put an arrow into cape cod bay...
I was just looking at kuiu, i see good reviews but id rather hear from people that hunt very close...
I bought two jackets from Kuiu sent them both back they were supposed to be the quietest thing for hunting maybe for gun hunting at 100 yards but not bow hunting and the stuff ran really small . Sitka is way better but just about anything you get with a wind liner is going to be noisy . Try code of Silence I havnet seen any but heard good about it .
Thanks for post,,, my buddy told me same thing he has been hearing the kuiu stuff is loud especially for really close hunting.
I will check out the code of silence.
Asio gear is specifically designed for bowhunting whitetails, very warm, durable, and quiet.
I bought King of the Mountain Bibs back in 1997 and still use them when its really cold out. I still can't believe my KOM will be 30 years old and I'm still using it today.
I have had a bunch of bibs. On the advice of Beemann, I bought Sitka Fanatic bibs and jacket.
Yes it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. Both Beemann and I live in North Dakota and it gets pretty darn cold here -not to mention the wind on the prairie.
After using it for a couple years, I would buy it again. It's quiet enough for me. Great design of pockets.
I really like the zipper design on the jacket.
Natural Gear Winterceptor Fleece Bibs fit the bill. Not to expensive. I also use their fleece wader pants, fleece 1/4 zip and fleece hoodie.

I have Kuiu, First Lite, and Sitka stuff. It works well enough early season and the super down under my clothes keeps me warm until it gets cold.
Honestly, the best really cold weather gear I've used for hunting in a stand is the cabelas wooltimate or outfitter jacket and bibs with wind shear. It's heavy, but worth it if I don't have far to go. I bought mine 20 years ago. Not sure if it's the same quality or even if you can still get it.
I've had gear from Kuiu and First lite. I love their warm weather stuff, but the cold weather gear doesn't cut it for me. I purchased some Code of Silence stuff last year and was very happy with it. The versa line kept me warm during the rut and then zone 7 for the later season. The wool exterior can be a pain in thorns and briars - everything clings to it, but it's reasonably warm, the quietest I've ever worn, and very reasonably priced too.
I really like a one pice suit as opposed to bibs. Not having a gap between my jacket and pants really helps keep things warm, even on those single degree or negative sits here during late season. I really like the Redhead Silent Stalker suit.
hey everyone a huge thanks for posting your recommendations. you guys have some good points and you folks in North dakota I wouldn't doubt your opinion because yeah its darn cold up there and that wind thats the thing once the wind makes it thru your layers its hard to deal with that.
someone mentioned KOM,, I still hear its the best but for 900.00 for bibs Im more worried about my body weight changing,, if i only knew id stay the same body type for that many years id buy KOM right now.
I'm going to say the Sitka Fanatic bibs (and system) are the warmest. I've had Filson, KOM. Woolrich, Wooltimate and a couple of others....but nothing was like the Fanatic.
In fact they were so warm I sold them. There was absoultely no need for that amount of warmth in the deep south. I used them on a day that was 14 degrees with a 20 mile and hour wind (sooo rare) and even though my butt froze to the seat of the stand (really) I had to unzip the parka a bit due to the heat.
They are very heavy and bulky though....
It often gets plenty cold in northern Wisconsin in November. If it's just cold, but not windy, I wear my King of the Mountain bibs and coat. But when the wind starts howling, and/or it's threatening rain, I go to my Sitka Gear Incinerator bibs and jacket. It's noisier than wool or the fanatic fleece, but stops the wind entirely. When it's windy, there's a lot of noise in the woods. Can't say the the fabric noise has ever cost me a shot. Unfortunately, it's also very pricey.
Im starting to wonder now if the warmest stuff is too warm for new england. the coldest I hunted hunted was -14 below wind chills and I was in that stand for 11hrs,, I think in a pinch I wore a frog toggs rain suit (I had in truck for fishing) under my clothes that day which worked pretty good.
Ted, I've done the same thing wearing a light rain coat under my outer coat, makes one hell of a difference keeping me warm as toast.
Fanatic bibs are super warm and very quiet. I also have a pair of woolrich bibs I have had for 40 years they are quite and warm but not as warm as fanatic
I've also gotta go with KOM! Very warm wool.
Check out Code of Silence. I have a few of their garments and love them. https://www.codeofsilence.com/collections/late-season?wn=2c4704b0-63c3-4946-ad53-847270976b5c
I use the Asbell wool bibs when it's cold and not too windy. When it's windy I put on a pair of jelly Hansen waterproof bibs and those are quiet too.
SITKA Fanatic. Unless it is REALY cold, you cannot wear these for much of a walk into the woods. Super cold, slow still hunting, you might be ok. What I'm getting at here is these things are crazy warm. I pack them in.
Great bibs for sitting. But that being said of course, I don't care what you are wearing ...... you sit a while in the brutal cold and the blood isn't moving, the cold will get to you. Normal cold weather sits, you will not be able to beat the SITKA Fanatic for warmth.
WOOL. 100%.
Grey wolf woolens. Owned there wool for 20 years, never let me down and still going. Break it down cost and comfort per year, and no other clothes comes close.
I was just looking at the Asbell Wool bibs. Sure interested in how they compare to High tech stuff. I have always been biased to wool. Be nice if Asbell stuff had a windstopper layer.
Look at the Wiggy's stuff. He makes stuff for the Alaska Oil Field workers. These guys work at -60F outside...
I have a bunch of asbell vests and coats and not sure id want bibs from the same wool unless they had a wind lining and maybe even another thermal lining,, im talking single digits then ad some wind.
