Title: What type of flu flu fletching for pheasants
Post by: Tajue17 on October 09, 2025, 10:23:02 AM
This is more for gathering everyones thoughts on hunting pheasant with a stickbow, im not going to lie that my preferred method is glassing up
And down dirt roads late in the afternoons for these stocked birds that come out of the brush,,,, just like hogs i use binos then stalk up one if the sides and i shoot them right on the ground,, sometimes i do get em to run but they almost never fly so im always using regular fletch because if i see some deer tracks and the wind is right i will hang right there till dusk.

Okay so im curious which fletch do you guys who hunt flying targets use?  Im thinking 3 fletch for speed but maybe its more practical to use spiral,,, if you are using s full length spiral does it matter what wing side to use if im
Shooting righty or i normally fletch with left wing.

Most spiral wrapped high profile fluflus run out of gas too soon to be of much use to me in hunting pheasants.  I'm lucky to get a shot inside of 15 yards unless it's some kind of escaped farm raised pheasant that has no idea where it is or what it's doing out there.  This was made with 5" feathers mounted in the usual way, with a second 3 mounted in between the first by rotating the arrow 180* in the jig after mounting the first 3.  It's good out to about 30 yards, and you have a reasonable chance of finding your arrow if you fletch with bright colors.  I don't think it matters if you use right or left wing.

For flying birds I use 5 inch full  feathers. Wrapped slow down to soon.

ok so NO spiral fletching...  the 5.5 high back 6 Fletch is a good idea.  also a friend read what I wrote and with the binos no im not stalking in on em exactly like hogs I use the binos to see far up the roads and to study the edges looking for the birds then I just sneak up that side, Im hunting all stocked birds theres no within maybe 500 miles of here.

If you're hunting only stocked birds, you should be able to get pretty close to them, so you could probably use a more aggressive flu flu than mine is, and maybe lose less arrows.

Never really hunted pheasants?
But 4 fletched full uncut feathers has worked good for squirrels in trees

Yup!  This is spot on!
You'd be fine with your regular fletch pattern,  dull beater broadheads = perfect arrows for ring-necks and flying things  :archer2:

Using dull ma2 heads with scorpios on the shaft right behind the head.,  im shooting at dirt roads or maybe into the edges..
