After suffering total boredom and lack of fulfillment with compounds, I sold them and have my first trad bow on its way- a Damon Howatt Coronado.
I have to say, I was never anywhere near the best shooter of a compound bow, but plenty solid and lethal out to 50-60 yards. Funny thing is, shooting a compound never left me feeling like I was an archer, or a bowhunter, for that matter. Ever. And I started at 14 and I am now 50.
Went through two Sanlidas but sent both back (one had limb twist, the second came in the wrong weight). I figured it was fate so ditched the notion of starting on a Chinese bow off of Amazon, and sought out a vintage bow as the idea tugged at one of the very few glimmers of sentiment I possess; breathing some life into things from the past.
The Coronado may be a tad heavier than I should probably start out with -49#'s- but I haven't had much issue holding back the 45# recurves of others Ive fiddled with. And if that doesn't work out for the initial learning curve, I figure I can snag another vintage bow in the 40# range, and thus start collecting bows like Ive collected revolvers.
No archery hunting this year due to rehabbing both knees and and a recent deep, low back injury. Heck it may be next year before anything. Who knows how physical therapy will go, but hopefully by spring maybe I can call in a turkey.
Welcome to the club. I went through the same boredom and lack of fulfillment after years of shooting a compound. It's probably a common theme here. Your first traditional harvest will be something epic. You will have difficulty putting it into words. Good luck. JV
Welcome to Tradgang, Dan.
You have come to the right place for advice.

A lot of the same for me as well. I compound tournament shot for years but it starting getting....unexciting. Picked up a couple bows, Black Widow and a custom Zona longbow (the bowyer only made them for a short time), and played around with them for a while. I liked it but got away from shooting for a while. Now I'm back with a vengeance! :biglaugh:
