I am simply loosing my mind in the school pickup line for my youngest daughter right now. After a morning hunt with my Bear Mag Takedown, I stopped by the house to grab a book to read while waiting. Picked up the copy of "Bowhunting Alaska's Wild Rivers" by Jay Massey that I found at a favorite used bookstore for $5 (I couldn't believe it). Ran up to the counter, paid, never opened it. It's been sitting on my bookshelf with my other outdoor books collected over the years for about a month and a half. Well, I opened the book up in the car line and it is freaking autographed and inscribed. Missing the 6 point at 12 yards this morning suddenly doesn't matter much at all!IMG_7938.jpg
I was lucky enough to get a signed copy from Jay when he was still alive (i'm showing my age). I've seen that particular book of his sell for $200-$300 on ebay in the last few years. You got quite a find!
I have 2 of Jay Massey's books signed to me, The Bowyers Craft(1987) and Primitive Archery(1990) and A Thousand Campfires(1985) unsigned. Jay has been one of my archery heroes for many years.
Nice find, Allan.
Signed by Massey, for 5 bucks. This is why I go to garage sales and thrift stores ... you just never know what treasures you'll find.
I got the complete set of his books, for $75. Thought I was in heaven.

Got a full set signed, all good reads that'll be passed down. Had the opportunity to meet and talk with Jay, truly a unique guy missed by all that knew him.
This is one of my top 5 favorite books of all time.
Jay was definitely one of the good guys and a huge talent. Had all of his books, some signed, but because I'm getting a bit long in the tooth, and with no one to bequeath my books to, I liquidated my trad bowhunting library a couple of years ago. Sold them all to folks on this site.
Hunted with Jay more than 30 years ago. The moose in my profile picture is from the Moose John River. Didn't take it on my hunt with Jay (though I got close then), but 10 years later with Ernie Holland after Jay had passed.
My copy of A Thousand Campfires is signed by Jay, I also have Bowhunting Alaska's Wild Rivers which is unsigned. That was a great find.
One of the great story tellers!
