Hey all, long time reader with very few posts was looking for some insight that has probably already been discussed in here but I'm not having any luck coming across it. What's everyone's opinion on using 2 core lams vs 3 to achieve the same stack thickness in the end? Just looking for some insight on why one would be preferred over the other in a T/D recurve style limb. A glass bow that is thanks!
I'm a big believer in more laminations in a long bow or hybrid long bow and try not to exceed .80 thickness as a rule. The thicker lams do not do as well in compression as more thinner lams.
But with TD recurve limbs your stack is much thinner and could easily use 2 lams. but..... i still like having 3 lams vs 2. I often use 2 wood lams and a .015 piece of stable core with .040 glass. The torsional stability seems to be a bit better.
Also... when bending a tight radius, you have less spring back with more laminations, and it holds its shape coming out of the form better... .02 cents worth.
Easier to bend around the form and less spring back with more lams
