Title: Shoulder pain and tradbows
Post by: Doug Treat on August 19, 2025, 06:50:13 PM
Video on a few tips for us old fellers when our shoulders are telling us that we're getting a little long in the tooth.

I'm hoping it might help others stay in the game.

Thanks for sharing this Doug. I'm dealing with a recent rotator cuff tear in my bow shoulder, so this is timely. The non-mechanical release is interesting.

Great video ! Interesting idea with the eye bolt , and thinking it could have merit to improve a release , even with good shoulders !

I was thinking the same thing. With fingers off the string, issues like finger pinch and torqueing the string go away. It would also allow for a higher anchor if that matters to you.

Thanks for sharing Doug, I don't have shoulder issues other than they are weaker than they used to be ... my problem is my ring finger on my string hand and that eye bolt idea looks interesting. I have fooled around with a few non mechanical releases and a few mechanical ones also. I would be interested to hear how that works in a hunting situation of spot and stalk, do you wear that eye bolt all the time while hunting or slip it on if you see an animal to stalk. Im not a walk around with an arrow nocked guy, I wait until I get close or am in a set up waiting. I would not see an issue if I was in a stand or on a sit, but curious about the spot and stalk.

A release allows me to shoot more arrows and practice, if I just shoot fingers my ring finger locks up in a curl when i close my fist. Also with the mechanical release I can shoot a slightly heavier draw weight, about 5 #'s increase, than with just my old fingers.

I wear it all the time so I'm ready for a quick shot

I dropped down to a 40lb long bow and 2 Alene 1/2 hour before shooting.

Great video! Any chance you have a pic of the finished I-bolt. I think I'm going to give this a go but what to make sure I am doing the same thing. Thanks.

I've made several different NoMARs but this one seems to work the best for me. Just make sure the loop fits your middle finger loosely between the first and second knuckles. When you shoot, have the string on the closed side of the loop (top side in this picture).

Doug, have you noticed any increased wear on the string/serving using this method?
