Title: NW GA trad
Post by: Wingbow on July 08, 2025, 12:25:06 PM
I live in North West GA. Are there any local trad shoots or clubs in the area? I've stalked the forums for years and they've been a great educational resource for me. I haven't been on much in a long time due to work and family commitments. I am getting close to having more time to get back into the sport with my kids grown and about to be out of the house. I appreciate all that the admin at Tradgang do. Thanks for y'all's help.

Look up GA Traditional Bowhunters. They have a shoot every year in NW GA. I don't know of any other clubs. You might google search that and see.

Sorry I'm not much help, the last shoot I went to was Cloverdale 2003 just after I started Tradgang. I just don't do shoots, I'd rather burn my brownie points in the woods.  :campfire:

If you find out about any other clubs or shoots post here and let us know.

Oh! There is also, or use to be, and club called Appling Archers out of NE GA, but I know know what or where all they do.

Understood. I would rather spend my time in the woods as well. My last shoot was before 03' when I was over around Augusta and there were 3 different clubs hosting shoots about every wknd and I was still shooting a compound. Just looking for a good group of like minded fellas. As the guy that got me into trad used to say "iron sharpens iron". If I'm successful, I'll relay here. Again, thanks.

There are only a couple of traditional clubs that i know of besides The Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia.
The North Georgia Traditional Archery Club is out of Gainesville.  The South Georgia Traditional Archery and Primitive Skills is located out of Ellaville, Ga.  I don't know of any that offer year round shoots. These clubs have shoots from January through August, before and after deer season opens and closes. TBG has some shoots in various sites in the state in the off season.  They usually offer a couple of hunts during the season also.  It would be worth your while to join TBG to connect with some like minded individuals.
By the way, TBG is having their annual banquet July 19th at the Elks Lodge in Covington, Ga. Fred Eichler is the guest speaker.  There will be good food and there will be a ton of items to win via raffle tickets.  All of these groups have Facebook accounts so they are easy to join. Good luck in your search!

Does anybody know if they still have the Cohutta bear hunt?

I'm gonna try to make it to the banquet and renew my membership. I've been absent for quite a few years with my girls being so busy and us, traveling all over, from stage to stage. Now I have one married and one in Branson singing, so things have settled a little bit here.

Fred is a great speaker. He's worth the price of admission for sure.

Still looking for an answer on the Cohutta Bear hunt. I will be hosting a hunter for the St Judes Auction and I'm not sure what week he is wanting to go. If TBG is going to have a hunt the weekend he want's to go, I want to make sure we stop by the campsite for a visit.

Hey Terry! I haven't seen any info about this years hunts in our magazine.  Last year there weren't any bear hunts.  There were three hunts all together...one the end of October at West Point WMA, one at the end of November at Rocky Mountain PFA, and one this past February at Chickasawahatchee WMA.  They will probably have some info at the banquet.
