I received notice today that I was drawn for the Oregon Eagle Caps traditional bow-only elk hunt. Has anyone ever done that one? I wanna make it count! Thanks!
Thats awesome, should be a fun hunt! So far the draws have not been kind this year. Struck out on everything so far.
Congratulations!
like Trenton, I haven't been drawn for anything yet...
That's great. I sure hope you have some stories to share it with us when the time comes. :campfire:
This is way cool, I'll be watching :clapper: Congrats on getting drawn!!!!
It may be wise to locate an outfitter that will take you in on horseback, and is set up for that high country wilderness area. That is some very steep country. what are the dates of your hunt? Kirk

I agree with this.
good tip! I've been backpacking in pretty far the last few years on my hunts but that pack out would be brutal! particularly when I want to go deep enough to get away from roads and 4 wheelers.
This is the last elk I shot....! :biglaugh: (TN Classic)
Congratulations on drawing that hunt! There are very few states that have trad only hunts, let alone a trad only elk hunt in a wilderness area. Make sure to give it your best effort.
Kirk II x2, big area steep and narly, I would contact an outfitter if nothing else to have help getting animal out.
You might contact the Oregon Hunters Association (OHA).

I believe Jim Akenson is a
traditional bowhunter, and there is a possibility of others. Jim Akenson lives in Enterprise.
Congratulations —that sounds like a great opportunity !
Best of luck to you.
