Hi guys, almost as much I love bows I love knives, also if for sure there are some good working cheap knives I love to carry something that I can admire on the slow hunting hours. I am used to carry a Buck 110 folders and a fixed blade, lately a Randall #23 or my trusty Rhea Damascus hunter.
What’s your opinion? Happy Hunting

I use a CPM 3-V Master Hunter from Cold Steel for skinning.
-
Used a Buck 110 for something like 45 years. Now use a $15 Mora carbon steel knife which I feel is a much better knife. Am working in an Ahti carbon steel knife which works as well as my Mora but has more eye candy.

Here’s one I use for skinning and gutting with the handle made from a shed antler and sheath from a cowhide I have on hand. The blade is from Asbell Wool as I’m not near handy enough to forge my own. It’s a fun and simple project and the blade is super easy to sharpen. These are not always shown available as blade only from Asbell Wood on their website but occasionally do pop up. Fits in nicely with the archery gear I enjoy making for myself.

A Buck Vangard for me. Really like the rubber grip on the handle.
-
That's a substantial knifeFelix. I've been carrying a model 26 (pathfinder) for several years. Suits me well.
-
I have a lot of knives but the one I have with me the most is a Warlander Enterprises Mink.
-
I’ve been packing this one as a daily carry and have processed a lot of critters for it, for about 10 years now. Im not sure of the steel he used but is a Damascus blade with walnut scales made by Terry Barnett. I just made a new sheath for it last night after deciding to try a pancake style that’ll stay in place better.

I like to tinker around in the garage some. This one is my preferred skinner pattern in AEBL steel taken to a nice crisp mirror finish and was handled in some average quality, straight grained Arizona desert ironwood with German silver pins/inlay and fossilized mammoth ivory inlaid within the silver border. The tapered tang improves the balance and feel of the knife and the handmade leather is of a similar and complimentary quality to the blade. Its a pleasure to use on everything from squirrel to bear but most importantly...it's mine. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Buck Akonua
Custom made by Bruce Blades.
Greg Bruce is a relatively new knife maker who has elevated his work quite nicely.
He is still very reasonable. I love the blade he made for me -especially for de-boning meat. I think he has a web site. Call him up, tell him Gary said to call him. And Greg will probably charge you another fifty bucks.🤣

Buck 110 my children gave me many years ago. A small cold steel on my Fanny pack belt and a Victorionox in my pocket from the minute I put my pants on.
-
This is my latest, a Big River knife to match my Big River bows. Brian did an excellent job, the sheath is another work of art. The one pic shows a bit of the handle art work, an arrow head made of mammoth ivory. The neck knife is a Spyderco Bow river. The two with the Kershaw are customs by Paintman and have Ironwood burl handles.

Everyday?buck 110,Camila’s T29,Swissarmy, in my truck?USMC KABAR , Boy Scout sheath knife , and a Cane knife 20”? They are also my hunting jknivesi hav many others

Lately I've been carrying two folders. A CRKT Homefront (AUS-8) and a CRKT Homefront Hunter (1.4116). Light and easy to sharpen. After field-dressing a deer with the Hunter I toss it in the organ bag. Once home the knives disassemble and can be thoroughly cleaned up. The Homefront has a good, rugged general purpose drop point while the Homefront Hunter is upswept and great for skinning a deer.
And I carry a Victorinox Huntsman in a hip pocket beside my wallet anytime I am wearing pants.

These are my hunting knives. The bottom two are my favorites. The one on the right was made by Don Bruton of Pumpkintown SC. Don builds period correct knives, hawks and black powder flintlock rifles. One of his customers wanted an Osage self bow so I built him one. I did everything but the finish. He added his artistic touch to it. In trade he made the knife for me from an old bastard file.
The one on the left was made by Bobby Keller(RIP) from North Wilkesboro NC. Bobby wanted a sinew backed Osage recurve I built so we traded. Bobby gave me the choice of any of his brand new knives. This one was Bobby's personal hunting knife.I wanted the one with his medicine built in.
The knife on the top left was assembled by a friend that was with the Georgia G&F, Larry Speir and my first hunting knife. Larry bought the blade from Atlanta Cutlery and hafted the antler handle to it and gave it to me for Christmas 1978 and helped my wife pick out a TC Hawkins black powder riffle she gave me that year for Christmas, the gun I killed my first 2 deers. Marcia and I were married in March 1978 so this was our first Christmas together.
The knife on the top right was a gift from one of the Twin Oaks members at a Tennessee Classic. I had given him a side quiver I made that he admired and later he gifted me this knife. The blade of this knife was made from an industrial band saw blade.
The top hawk was made from a railroad spike and also made by Bobby Keller. The bottom hawk was made by Dylan Holderman as a trade.

For many, many years my go to knife has been a Buck 112 with finger grooves. It has done a lot of work for me.
Lately I have really enjoyed some knives from Rapid River Knives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. They are one of a couple spinoffs after the sale of Marbles to SMKW. I received a folder as a gift and now have 3 sheath knives as well.
Of course being from Michigan I have a couple original Marbles knives too.

The one on the left was made from Helle steel by Rob DiStefano.
The one on the right was my Dads, no markings so I assume it was made by an individual.
I'm 76 so god only knows how old Dads knife is.
Both are scalpel sharp...

Here is my main hunting knife. It's my version of the Fred Bear knife, broadhead file, and sharpening stone. I also added a ferro rod. The knife has a 4" damascus blade. The knife, file, and ferro rod handles are deer antler. The sheath has a pocket in the back for a spare bow string.

This thread reminded me I needed to do my after season cleaning to my hunting knife. ( I know, I should clean it after every time I use it). Mora Garberg. My favorite, surgical sharp and easy to keep it that way.
Before and after.
-
I have more than one. Kinda like having one screw driver. Wont work good in all occasions.
Great thread BTW. :campfire:

My bowhunters kit inspired by Kompfjager. My other favorite is the neck knife.
-
POLK if that's tinkering I'd love to see what you do when you get serious.
I've only made one knife...about three years ago from an old file using a hand held grinder and belt sander. Actually didn't overheat the steel grinding it and it's sharp and holds an edge well. Padauk handle. See photo. Too many hobbies and I'll leave knife making to others.
My main knife for the woods is my Randall 8-4. Had and have many others (nowhere near Ron LaClairs collection) Bucks, Bench, Kabar, Gerber etc etc.
Being a lefty I do make my own sheath

(https://www.tradgang.com/upload/charlie/06huntingknives.jpg) SOME OF MINE..Two DOUG CAMPBELL belt knives, one buck combo folding, and one Swiss Army. i use the Swiss Army the most.

I have some Doziers that I like, but the Buck Brahma 117 that I've had for a few years has become my favorite hunting knife. The Case knife I've had since I was a kid,and like to use it around camp. I got that Case for $15 at the local hardware store.

. On the contrary Mr Jon , you Sir must be the real deal when you're able to identify and know the various names of gear / equipment of this particular style of attempting to eventually ride the finish horse straight up in the bridal . With a signal spade of course . Don't know if you have checked the prices lately on true Garcia silver spade bits out of Elko , Nevada. Let's see if down the road I can post a knife pic with 36 plait bosal . Or a bosalito used in the two rein . Or some exclusive romal or romel reins depending on what part of the country your from . BTW Mr Jon try to always buy your mecates from mane hair and not tail hair , lol. Take care my friend Sir ! .........

,,, Gerber Infantry I l . bits a Santa Barbara frog mouth , silver hand engraved on sides ......

Some great looking knives! I got this one on a trade a few years ago. Don’t know much about it other than the maker is from MS and a member of the knife makers guild.
-
Some really beautiful knives in this thread.
I have carried this combo pack for about 25 years. It has served me well. It's not very pretty but it sure does work well. I have quite a few other hunting knives but this set always finds it's way into my pack.
-
I love custom knives as much as the next guy. I even forged one for myself but have not put handles on it yet.
But, I have to say that old Buck Akonua that I previously posted has done everything I could ask of a good knife to do. Forgotten how many deer it has gutted, trimmed, skinned, deboned; one elk, I think one bear.
My wife bought it for me in Alaska for a birthday present 51 years ago.
-
Forgot my everyday carry. Benchmade Mel Ardue , maybe?

I've really been enjoying this thread.... 'Tell me your about your hunting knife'...
I wish I knew where all of them were....
