Title: Namibia 2024, Makalaan
Post by: Jorge on June 09, 2024, 02:37:23 AM
Another trip to Namibia with Makalaan, third year in a row, as always, a wonderful experience. Apologies for the basic English as I am not a native speaker or writer.

First animal of the safari, an impala ram hunted by my friend Jose “Pope”. He is shooting a Satori riser with Uuhka limbs, around 60#

And first one for me, a gemsbok, Border 48# with Ironwill broadheads and Legacy arrows,565 grains.

I hunted another gemsbok but was recovered at night, easy tracking, but at the last light, pic is not so nice but these things happens. Ironwill broadheads are amazing!! As news after the kills

Third one, an old impala ram, same setup except for the heads, this time, the Phantom 220 grains with the bleeders.

Namibia is a great destination, Antonie and Melinda are wonderful hosts. What to say about the trackers. Incredible when you say how they can find an animal shooted the previous day with just a drop of blood and the tracks, with dozens of tracks from others species, and find the animal at more than 500 yards

A treestand near a water tank, watwrbucks everywhere, I counted more than 40 in a day

Treestands and blinds over natural ponds are all over the place but the drought makes them useless many years

Small game makes thing more interesting!

Always thinking in the return trip

Nice Jorge!  I've never had the pleasure of hunting Namibia, but have hunted the Limpopo Province in South Africa. I've heard good things about Namibia and if I ever get a chance to go again, that's where I"ll be!  Beautiful animals and pictures sir!

Great pictures.  I've just sent another bowhunter this past week to hunt with Makalaan (Antonie).  He should be returning from his hunt is a couple days.
Contacted Antonie - he says they are still experiencing a drought.

Hi, yes, the man arrived just same day that we fly to ours homes.

Drought is not a problem actually, maybe at the end of our summer. If is very hot and the rain doesn’t arrive early could be a problem for the next year, specially for the animals that depends of the grass as the warthogs. Others species still having good food sources.

I am absolutely sure that you had a great time. They are great hosts and make you feel right at home and part of the family. If there were 40 waterbuck to see, the herd has grown dramatically which is a good sign. Hearing that drought is not currently a major concern is also a relief after a lot of bad years for them.  Congratulations on picking a wonderful place to hunt, sharing with us, and taking some good trophies/memories.
