I was inspired by the thread about what "use" to be everyone's bow of choice. Let's move to present day and pretend cost is not an issue for a moment. What is the make/model for the one bow you'd love to have? I am new to traditional archery, so I recently had to contemplate this question, with only a little information (and certainly no experience)to draw from. My choice is obvious below...it hasn't arrived yet, but it is in the works. Make it count...you can have/shoot only one. :archer: :jumper:
sheepeater or morrison
Zipper elk horn riser. I shot one in Ohio a month back and fell in love. I will own, hopefully soon
Oh yeah...forgot to add. Since I am new to trad equipment, pics would be great! Easier to dream when you can see it. I'll start with mine: Morrison Cheyenne, Osage riser...going to have pine cone carving, foam core black limbs with Copperhead skins.
68" Sunset Hill, 75#-80#@28", bone tip protectors, w/buffalo skin wrap on straight handle.
That is so not fair! I refuse to answer on the grounds I can't decide!
But since it is just a dream, I wouldn't mind trying out one of those new Silvertip longbows!
I just became an owner of my dream bow. I tried for two years to buy this bow, finally got the job done. It's a Big East recurve, 53lbs @ 28" and 60" long
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v671/dco68/256018469.jpg)
How about a snaky Osage selfbow. On my first bow now and a nice selfbow is all I could think of replacing it. :)
I have an Acadian Woods 3pc Tree Stick due in July, so I guess it will have to be my current "dream" -- That is, until it gets here... :banghead:
Tie between a Blacktail or Great Plains SR Swift. Never happen because I'll never pay that much for a bow...
Widow
Assenheimer 64in, 52lb @ 28in, three piece takedown recurve. -Charlie
A bow made by Arnold (v-archer). His bows and arrows are works of art.
Mine should be done sometime in Oct-Nov.......
3pc Silvertip Longbow 62" and #53 @ 28"
Checkered grip and antler tip overlays.
Antler burr limb bolts.
Walnut Dymondwood riser and walnut actionwood limbs w/clear glass to match the riser.

My dream bow...
Well, I think it just rocked-up in the mail.
Back at college when I first became interested in the bow-and-arrow, and had eyes only for camouflaged three-stringed wheel-bows, I read a "Bowhunter Magazine" article about Paul Schafer, and was greatly impressed. But, still the appeal of the wheels held, as, from my rifle background, there was just no way that I could personally trust something so simple, and further, I hadn't yet discovered that the process was more important than the end result. So, I got hold of an elderly Hoyt compound (all I could afford, anyway) and after much trying and a few years, took my first two animals with it, a brumby and a donkey. By the time I took my first donkey, I was in my first year of teaching, and could finally afford a new bow. It was going to be a Matthews compound, but I recalled that Schafer article, and decided to first check out this traditional notion. I bought a Martin Hunter recurve. After much trying with that, I had knocked over another donkey, and a young bull buffalo (not too shabby for a fellow's second traditional kill, and fourth archery kill). But it was on a remote dam in the Simpson Desert, after an epic cat-n-mouse game with an enourmous brumby stallion into which I was finally able to place an arrow, that I decided that this traditional thing was definitely for me. Then and there, near that dam as I looked at the fallen desert monarch, I decided to get one of those Paul Schafer bows. But, back in civilisation, the prospect of waiting for ten months was too much, and I decided that it would be good to check out the longbow thing, seeing as I'd hunted with a compound and a recurve. So, a couple of Black Widow longbows came my way, and I really cut my teeth on them as a bowhunter, and my remaining one remains very special. During this time, I decided to experience Hill-style equipment too, and bought a beautiful Redman. Finally, after a few years had gone by since first deciding to get a Schafer recurve, I stayed-up real late one night so that I could call Montana early in their morning, and place an order with Dave Windauer - and after eleven months it arrived on Friday, and I'm stoked with it!
I suppose I wanted to experience as many different types of bows as I could. One day, I'm sure I'll cut, split and dry one of the nice straight trees that grow along the river, and see what happens.
But, if I just had to have one, it'd be the Silvertip that caught my attention in the magazine when I was just starting out in archery.
There are so many that I don't have that I want to try. I have had a few dream bows come through my hands. It is the dream that keeps you going. It is an illusion, it's only tangible until you hold the bow, then it's gone. The dream is sweeter than reality - usually :p
With that said, I want to own an RER LX and a Foley recurve. A PSA Widow that got away. But I have to agree with several of the above, for the total package, the bow that makes my pulse quicken is the Silvertip. Especially want the new longbow. Cruel, cruel world.
I haven't found it yet.
A Dean Torges osage selfbow...no doubt.
stan
Right now it would be just about any nice 1 piece longbow so I could get to shooting.
Assuming the bow I have is NOT my DREAM bow, which is just about a lead pipe cinch that I won't be, I guess I would take an Adcock 3 piece longbow. Every time I go back and look at pictures of them I want one. Too bad they are WAY out of my range. Sadly it probably will REMAIN in the category of DREAM BOW.
Oh well....
Wait a sec...if anyone out there happens to be reading this thread and is feeling overly PHILANTHROPIC, I will gladly accept your gift! :bigsmyl:
Nala
I already have it, I just am not sure which one it is. Would have a real tough time deciding between my Hill, Robertson, GN Critter Gitter or Dwyer longbows. Would pick one about 55# and 64 inches, maybe two inches longer on the Hill. Luckily, I don't have to pick.
Currently my dream bow is a Hill Halfbreed (yew outside and boo in) around 55# @ 28 with clear glass, elk tips and wrap and a bacote riser. Not sure about the grip, probably either straight or locator (big hands but used to my pistol grip recurve).
I hope to order that in a month or so, so we'll see if it remains my dream bow or not. :-D
I'll amend mine and say that the Morrison riser I am getting is somewhat plain compared to many. My ideal Morrison would have a riser more like this one:
These Great Plains bows are beautiful. Perhaps when I chose my Morrison, it was good that I didn't know all the available options...might have been overwhelming.

black widow takedown
I have not shot enough bows to know what my "dream bow" is, or would be. I just bought a new Mahantango, ad it is pretty sweet. It is a Hill style bow and now I am really into this style bow. I've been looking around and I think I would love a 70" Hill Roughed Grouse with an extra lam of boo that draws in the low to mid 50's#.
Lots of Silvertip mentions. They sure are sweet looking.
:notworthy:
I own mine. O.L. ADCOCK longbow.
Glad to see how many read "only one". Biff
Mine remains a dream. The one that draws the biggest critters, never misses, a dream to draw & let loose etc. etc. etc.
In reality, any bow I can shoot when I'm in range of a nice quarry.
It is the thrill of the hunt I seek most. Doesn't matter what vehicle if any I used to get there, what "lucky" clothes I have on, where or when really, long as it's legal, or what bow or arrow. It is the hunt.
Long live DA HUNT!
Have it - DAS with Winex or Morrison carbon/foam limbs.
Steve
Blacktail Snakebit
I got to fondle a Snakebit this weekend. I'd have to say I'll second BMN. Nicest piece of art I have seen. (Thanks JL)
Jim Neaves is building it for me right now! Carbon Centaur with a Gaboon and Black & white Ebony riser.
A Dean Torges BBO

i have not tried enough bows to have a dream bow yet. :biglaugh:

I THOUGHT THE OBJECT OF PASSION WAS TO NEVER STOP DREAMING. THE BOW IS A TOOL IN THE DREAM OF THE PEFECTLY PLACED ARROW ON THE SHOT OF A LIFETIME.

True enough...but at some point you have to stop dreaming momentarily and make a purchase. :) Then you can start dreaming of the next one. :archer:
The bow Fred Bear used to take his big Kodiak on the beach. That bow would have a lot of mojo. I would have to learn to shoot left handed, though.
One of voodoo's elk horn longbows...beautiful and one of a kind.

Heck, I wish I knew what my dream bow was because I would get one. ;)
My dream bow would be a wood bow I built that looked good enough and shot nice enough I would not be ashamed to show to the guys that build those great ones all the time. :D
The new longbow from Morrison. the one with foam and carbon limbs. I will be ordering mine later this year.
A schafer silvertip! I am saving and I WILL have one.
This one and I own it.

Morrison Shawnee, Zebrawood and Midnight Dymondwood "A" riser, "B" Dakota carbon/foam limbs, 59#@27.
Moving to just one bow...or at least this one and one just like it but with my 64#@27 limbs. Do 2 bows of the exact same kind count? ;)
Danny, that is one fine piece of wood(s)!
Currently, mine is in the works...at Norm's shop. It is a Blacktail Elite one piece, Snakebit footed with Wenge, limb veneers will be leopard wood, tips wenge and snake wood.
This is mine I just got it not too long ago. But like most dreams when one comes true it's on to the next one......stabow

Great lookin' rig, JC....another who already owns the bow of his dreams. That has to be a great feeling. No cheating...only one bow during the fantasy round of questions. :p
Harrison HHC is the dream bow but the reality dreamer I got a Howard Hill cheetah with and extra lam of boo and cocobola riser.RC

Blacktail Elite VL 55@29, 62" Cocabolo and Bocoate Satin finish for hunting... Jeff
I always wanted a Brackenbury Shadow recurve.
I want one just like Jim is holding on the cover of his old brochure. After nearly 20yrs of drooling over the pictures I finally have one on order.
Right now the dream bow for me would be a Ed Scott 5 curve Owl hunting bow 58 or 60 in long and 47 lbs @ 28 ..
Mike
zipper, elk horn riser...have it now was a gift from my nephew
Ok, so I'm pretty inexperienced and this will probably pale to some of what you guys mentioned but I really like the Martin Savannah. I know it's a factory bow and all but it matches well with the few custom bows I've had the opportunity to shoot. If I could pick two the other would be one of the Saluki horse bows.
I have a Silvertip on order so that is my current dream (don't tell my wife). Though my Hummingbird ain't no slouch.
Come on August!
Mine's going out tomorrow, according to JD Lund. A 56" Mojostik recurve with the never seen before "outline" riser and tempered bamboo limb cores. I'm waiting to see how it looks and shoots, but I'm sure it'll be all I can imagine and a bit more.
I would like to have a Don Adams English longbow, but at $1000 I guess it is my dream bow
Definitely it would be a "Jerry Pierce Chocktaw"! :readit:
Gainesville wood handle, prefer A but would take B.
Last few nights it has been a Saluki Ibex, I shot one at the Baltimore shoot and it's still in my brain!!! SWEEEEEET Shooter!!!! That Schaffer Tip in the classafieds the 3rd one with the Massur birch limbs and rosewood riser, keeps interupting my Saluki dream though!
Well if we are dreaming here it is:
Black Widow PSAX with a bacote or cocobola riser and bamboo instead of red glass in the riser. Bamboo limb cores with juniper veneers and diamondback snake skins. Oh yeah, antler limb bolts too. I almost forgot maybe an extra set of limbs while I am at it.
Do you think they would even make one of those?
Jon
I guess I already have my dream bow. It shoots like a dream to me
Mikuta 48 @ 27

One of the prettiest I've seen...you guys have some awesome dream bows!
I have my favorite bow now. It's a Fred Bear Polar. I just recently found out it's a '57.
The reason it's so special is it belonged to my Dad. I was given the bow just before he died. Told me he loved that bow and wished he'd never gotten bit by the compound bug. He never took any game with the Polar and told me not to let it die a virgin.
So this October I've got a mission. That's why I've been asking so many questions.
one made by gordon of course
Man , out of these responses I can't believe just one guy, Centaur, was thinking like I was with an eye towards the historical significance of a particular bow, not a particular make.
His was Fred Bear's bow that took the big Kodiak Brown bear.
Mine would be the bow Paul Schafer used to kill the last sheep of his sheep slam.
My dream Bow shoots a 800 grain arrow @ 200 feet per secound
Right now it's this Habu, Viper-con double carbon in coco bolo 60" 65@28

Great point...never actually crossed my mind either when I started the thread. Got some deep thinkers out there. ;)
The bow Schwartzeneggar made in the movie predator.....
it'd have to be a dream bow to shoot through a four inch tree like that one did!!!

I'd like to have a Snakebit made for me and my specs. I had one that I traded to JL but it was too big. I'd like to have one in 60" instead of the 64" I had. Maybe with that curly Myrtyl too. That would be sweet. But, my lottery numbers haven't come up yet so I'll just have to keep dreamin.
Greg
I wish I could get my 1984 Bear Custom Kodiak TD back that I sold in 1990. I saw it 2 years ago on ****, but was out bid. It was strange to see my old bow, and the boxes were still intact with my name scrolled across them. It went to the state of Mich. It wasn't the prettiest of bows, but it was my first recurve bow.
Wow, what a collection Joe VT....beautiful bows. I love the Brackenbury. Afraid I am going to have to call a violation on you for exceeding the 1 dream bow limit...15 yards and loss of down. :p
I would have to say a Sunbear 51# @ 29".

Have a link or pics? Not familiar with these.
This is my dream bow and I got it about 1 1/2 months ago a Samick volcano 50#@28" 58" with camo limb skins, Dacron bowstring, river otter silencers, and a dura flip elevated rest
A year ago I would of said one of my Hill bows,,,and I might of said my Saluki Turk that I love.....But dang it, I'm ToelkeMan, so I say my Toelke Chinook.
Since this has come back up....I want a bow that doesn't exist!
I'd love to get hold of a Border Black Douglas, with the new HEX VI limbs & Ultra riser to make a 62" bow (Sid only builds these to make a 60" MAX bow :( ) Cocobolo & Ebony riser with a high grip & finger grooves, diamondback skinned limbs drawing exactly 60#@30"
Ahhhhhhhhh....perfection!
Tomahawk diamond ss
I agree Rob, though I'd be happiest with 60", Swift riser. Will snakeskin stay on the HEXVI's? I know they had trouble keeping the wood veneers on the V's so they stopped making them that way. :( Actually, I'm shooting my Border Griffon GL longbow now exclusively and loving it. I might be done buying bows! :archer:
The one that always hits exactly where you intend!
Other than that, I can't honestly say I have one. Too many good bows out there and the ones I have, a Chastain Wapiti and Navajo Caddo, are pretty hard to beat.
LD
A Mag riser with #2 limbs, I finally got the riser need the limbs...
sheepeater obsidian
The Dwyer Endeavor Longbow
Zipper SXT foam/carbon longbow, Zircote/Zebrariser
Will come soon! :D

Not sure about skins on the HEX VI limbs, but they stay on ony fantasy bow, so there!
The more I think about it, the more I'm actually tempted to sell ALL my bows & special order one of these.

one bow?? ? That isn't a dream, that is a nightmare! :scared:
One of my all time dream bows is on order will have it in about 5 to 6 months. A horn bow from Lukas at Saluki bows.
It is a North Indian Mughal crab bow.
I am so jazzed about it.
Oberon
Jerry Pierce Choctaw...left hand 50-55lb. :notworthy:
Morrison Shawnee Dakota longbow. 52-55#'s at 27".
"A" riser. "C" carbon foam limbs(58"). Kudu tips. Maybe Zircote and Bacote riser.Medium grip.
Can't narrow it down to one bow....but I bought this one back in the Spring....and it's likely I'll never own another.
I did order a 19" riser and brass burrs for the shorter limbs. It'll make two bows of 62" and 50#'s and 58#'s.
The ONLY thing I would change is.....maybe a set of the camo limbs for the 58#'er.....and for the 50#'er to be Bocote.
But I'm 100% satisfied with what I have.
