O.k. guys I am going to try and post some pics of my Bamboo backed Walnut and Osage R&D bow. It is 64" long from tip to tip. It is 1-1/2" wide at the fades to half way. Then they taper down to 7/16th of an inch at the tips. It is 54 lbs. at 28" draw. I have lost quite a bit of the R&D during tillering. Next one I try I will leave more of the deflex out of it to see if it helps. The bamboo I scraped and used a Red Mahogany stain on then I sealed it with Three light coats of Poly. The Osage I gave it a coat of Tongue oil and wiped it off the next day and gave it another coat of Poly. My tips are African blackwood. This piece of Blackwood had some sap on it and tried to use it also as you can see. The Walnut handle was a piece that had a nice feather grain in it. She shoots real nice and seems to really launch an arrow. Let me know what you think. Dean

Looks awesome man! Great job.
Very nice!
Sweet....very nice work!
good looking bow & nice looking tillering...sweet
Thanks guys for the nice compliments on the bow. I need to thank several guys that I have met here on Trad Gang that have helped me in my bow making but one guy that I really have to mention is Mr. Bob Barnes. Bob Cat I believe he is called sometimes. Bob is the person who has taught me how to do these glue up bows. He is an outstanding teacher and would not hesitate to help me when I needed help. Thanks again Bob. Dean
That bow is sweet Dean!Wow!
Brian
VERY nice stick man!
wow that is very nice good going you hit that combo on the mark it looks like a shooter as well :archer: I would like to see that bow in 2 years when the osage darkens
Very nice bow, love the dark and light wood together
Tht is a beautiful bow! Absolutely fantastic work.
Nice job on the bow Dean! That's a beauty! Loks like the tillering straightened it out well. What kind of wood is that in the handle...walnut? Very nice tips also! Great work Dean, Matt

Thanks guys again for the nice compliments. And Matt the handle is Walnut. I am very lucky when it comes to fancy Walnut. I have a friend who owns a sawmill and when he gets some highly figured walnut he lets me know. Dean
Good job!
Man this is sweet! I love Walnut in a bow. Nice job.
Sweet! Great work...
Nice work. That's a great combination of wood and craftmanship.
Thanks again guys. I really think walnut is highly over looked in bow making. I like it better for core wood than I do Red Elm. This bow was a tough one to tiller. I couldn't get the top limb to bend at first and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then I noticed that the bamboo was thicker on the top limb than the bottom. I still don't know to this day how I did that but I did. So I had to take quite a bit more of the osage off on the belly on the top limb. Dean
I like it! Sweet!
Beautiful! Is that an osage lam that extends over the walnut handle through the fades? How far does it extend on the belly? Its gorgeous.
Wow! You should be very proud.
Nice bow Dean. Nice piece of black walnut too. Chad
Steve to answer your question on the osage yes that is a thin lam that runs up over the fades. I heated it and bent it to run it up over the fades. It just goes past the fades a little ways. Dean
That's a beaut. Walnut in the handle really looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Well Done!
Great Job Dean ! I don't know how I missed this post...bring the bow to mojam so we can all see it up close...looks like a good one for the clout shoot. :)
Bob
Dean that is a pretty bending piece of wood you got there! I have been trying to build some bows myself, without near as good results as you. Great work my friend!

Beautiful bow!! Looks like you were a good student!!
Sweet bow!
Beautiful!. Great profile and tiller!
Very, very nice!!! I'm working on a boo backed hickory with black walnut handle. Nice to see what the contrast looks like on a finished bow!
Nice looking bow! ;)
I am getting my act together to build a couple of tri lam bows and have found an old fence row that has all the post made out of black walnut. The first piece I have worked is just beautiful. If it ends up looking anywhere close to yours I'll be happy. That is a stunning bow.
one saweeet bow sir!!!
