Can you explain this?... and is it a problem? I was shooting CE250 Heritage arrows 29 1/2" with 125 gr.heads out of my Hornes traditional 55#@28". Arrows flew beautifully with no additional weights! I have since sold the bow and am now currently shooting a Pronghorn 51#@28". These arrows are shooting fine but out of curiosity I decided to bare shaft test the arrow.Result, as you might expect, was nock right and way too stiff. I got the bare shafts to straighten out with an additional 240gr up front. Shot several more fletched with 5 1/2" feathers and 125 gr field tips and they flew fine. I'm confused. Can anyone explain this and is it a problem?
difference in center cut of bows
Hey Trapper, I understand how the difference in center cut of bows would affect arrow flight BUT the bare shaft test and fletched arrows came out of the same bow...the Pronghorn. How can it be that a bare shaft shows way too stiff and the same arrow fletched flies true???
the fletching is doing its job which is to stabilize and correct poor flight.
the feathers are stabilizing the arrow... slowering it down so it flies fine...
flething hides alot or rather compensates and corrects. You can take about any spined arrow and put flu-flu's on it and it will fly good because the feathers take control. Bareshafting just tells us the best spine so the feathers work less and the arrow is straightened quicker for optimum flight/penetration.
Try a 125 grain broadhead, and I'll bet my lunch it hits way to the left. Those are too stiff any way you slice it.
OK Guys, that makes sense. now, should I be concerned with this setup and go to the 150's instead or stay with what I have? That is to say, am I sacrificing significant arrow speed and penetration with this setup? Thanks again
