Title: Soverign Sonoran anybody?
Post by: twistedlim on January 15, 2024, 09:22:28 AM
Does anyone out there have a Sonoram?  I have a 63” on the way and am trying to figure iut what the brace height should be.  Based on the images it is a r/d very similar in love to Jim Reynolds’s Thunderstick at a Great Northern Fireball.  I, thinking between 7 and 7.5?  Thank you in advance.

I had my 64 inch thunderstick 111s at 7 and 1/4er inches to 7.5. My 62 inch Fireball at 7 and 1/4er to 7.5 as well.My 62 inch MOAB was right around 7.Been awhile since I had that one.

I was not sure if your Sonoran was a mild R&D or had a more aggressive hybrid type limb?I do remember that model. His only longbow I believe?I heard some good things about his longbow.Their pretty rare

Anyway if it more mild limb those type of longbows are usually good around 6.5 to 7 inches. On the more moderate to radical R and Ds I typically brace them higher.Around 7 to 7.5.

Your mileage may vary

The limb shape is more severe on the Thunderstick (on the right) . Somthings else, note how much higher the grip is on the Sonoran on the left.  The center of the bow is actually mid grip.  Similar to the top bow in this image:

Yep, I am thinking that. Nice bow. I have been looking for  Jim Reynolds Thunderstick 3 but have not had much luck so I picked up this one.  The Thunderstick suits me better though.   The Sonorn is very si.ilar to the Northern Mist Baraga in feel, albeit a bit quicker.
