Title: New Bob lee + bare shaft?
Post by: razorsharptokill on May 17, 2008, 06:42:00 PM
This bow belongs to a friend of mine who is in Iraq. He is going to be using 35/55 GT's and wants a 540 grain arrow w/ 3 5" feathers. It's 62# @ 28".

I tried some full length 35/55 GT's with no weight, 50 gr/100,and 150 gr of gold tip wt in the tip. Shafts all fly knock high/left from 15 yards.

Weak spine? Trim shaft? Anyone have a starting point?

I think the spine on 3555 will be to weak for his setup, I'm shooting 3555 with a 50gr brass insert and 125gr points out of a 46# @ 28 recurve. Mine weigh 425 soaking wet.

If your friend is set on a 540 grain arrow then hel'll need to use the CX Heritage or go up to a GT 5575 and add some point weight.

I shoot the traditional Beman 340 shafts (MFX I think) with my bob lee recurve @60lb with a 125gn point and they come out very well.
The Heritage would be another good option.

Are all Bob Lee's cut so far away from center?

3555 is too light for that weight. If you are right handed, the shaft point goes left if too weak. You can try to cut the shaft shorter or shoot a lighter point. If that does not work a 5575 or 7595 Gold Tip or a Carbon Express Heritage 250 might work.

I shoot full length 35/55's with a 145 gr. field point and 150 grains of weight behind the insert out of my 65 lb recurve and longbow. They are cut closer to center than this bob lee Classic though.
