I'm new to traditional archery. I purchased a mountaineer 2.0 from October mountain, just to learn the fundamentals. I now purchased a strata 62 inch "longbow" from them as well.
Is anyone familiar with these bows at all?
Nevertheless, I'm going the cheaper route, until I see that I can get 6 inch groups at 20 yards 98% of the time. I'm skeptical that a black widow will help me shoot better at this point.
I'm approaching this industry with very conservative caution.
Am I getting trusty equipment with October Mountain products to sharpen my skills?
So far the recurve packs a punch for the price.

IMHO ...
The arrow is more important than the bow. A well matched (to the bow) carbon arrow is the better way to go as it will be more consistent than woodies and more durable than alums.
Consistent form is next and a good part of that is not being "over bowed".

Can't give better advice than Rob did. Welcome to the addiction and enjoy the ride.

I agree with Rob, I have a fancy bow because it makes me happy for other reasons, not because I think it makes me shoot better.

Welcome to what can become a lifelong passion for you & hope you really enjoy the sport. I’ve owned two of the OMP Sektor ILF risers they have & was very happy with them. The grips on both were nice, finish was good & shot really nice with 3 Rivers DAS longbow limbs. You should be very happy with them & don’t hesitate to ask if you need help with tuning or other issues.

Thanks for the insightful responses.
I got 45#, so I wouldn't be over bowed. I couldve got away with 50# with the straight bow, though. Luckily I didn't, because I get wrist slapped by it, I reckon because of the brace height.
I'm still in reserching phase...along with experimental shooting with different styles.
So far..3 under and a glove is good. Point of aim.and gap shooting, rather foggy yet on those shooting styles.
I figured these bows will be great for building the form and muscle memory.
Still researching about tuning and arrow sizes.
I've been using resources such as:
Traditional Archery second edition, Sam Fadala.
Masters of the Barebow vol. 3
Bryson Ferguson barebow 101 video (that's already missing like an arrow under the grass..?)
YouTube videos.
Still trying to find a archery shop that knows something about traditional bows..
It's been a a rewaking and rewarding experience removing the training wheels (compound bow).
Still love my hoyt and Jennings bows. To let ya know...
