Title: norcal mulie hunt in August
Post by: Angus on May 15, 2008, 04:40:00 PM
For all who expressed an interest in a backpack hunt into Carson-Iceberg Wilderness area, McDave and I are going in over Memorial Day weekend to do some preliminary "explores".  Looks to be at best an overnighter, more likely a one-day recon of an area just outside the wilderness area proper.  Who can make this?  More eyes and binoculars are better than fewer!

what road network are you going in on?  On you in the X zones or the D zones?

It's X-12 I think.  You might be close, Roadkill, it's south of Topaz, between Walker and Coleville-closer to Coleville.  We'll head down 395 from Monitor pass, thru Topaz, past Coleville, and head up the road for the Golden Gate mine.  I believe the road's called "Mill Canyon" or "Lost Canyon"; it's been six years since I've been there.  Pm me if you want to head in-looks like at best, an overnight, probably a long day hike.

Michael, it's a "tad" west of ya, about 1500 "tads" probably!  It's east slope Sierra Nevada, just inside the central part of the California border, south of Lake Tahoe, and we don't know for certain that there are some bruisers here.  I did see the biggest black bear of my life here once, and some very big bucks have been taken out of the area.  I'd wait on it until next year if you've got the mule deer itch, and let us scout it and report back. I used to guide fishing parties there, and haven't seen many deer-seen a ton of tracks, though!
