Title: Shootable?
Post by: Vroomvroom on April 29, 2023, 08:31:35 PM
I got a new string.  I have to serve it over. It’s too tight on the nocks.  I haven’t shot it in ten years. And even then, few dozen arrows only.  It was given to me. It’s a roots 49# bow from 60s? I believe.   What do you folks think of this damage.   It’s a small lump

It’s like a nail is coming up through the wood.

Shouldn't be any nails in the riser?? Looks more like a "ding" to me??

I'd shoot it!! But, that's just me? They were meant to be bent!! :archer2:

Yes, I hope there isn’t a nail coming up through either.  Could be frost driving a rock up.   Not sure what damage looks like that could cause the limb to delaminate.   I served the string over. It’s much better but I still think it a touch tight on the nocks.  Arrow won’t release with slight bump. I have to pull back an inch or more I’d say to give it a thump.  I think it may try to slightly rotate string when swivelling arrow around the string.  I can in the light, see where I’m snapping the arrow on the new serving. So hoping it wears just that right amount.  The string is b55. So will that get smaller as it stretches?

Doesnt look like much. Its not in the working part of the limb which is a good thing.

I might sand that a bit and cover with a good dab of super glue.Let the glue soak in.

Shoot a bunch of arrows, and the serving will likely wear to the point of being perfect.
Can’t tell much about your bump, though.

Yes. Hope so.  Maybe I’ll get another rest it’s probably fine like the fellows mentioned. If I think of it tomorrow I’ll take a pic of my savannahs rest.  I like it. Though that doesn’t mean it has to be that way.  Like mcdave mentioned, I did Center the rest. I probably should have put over deepest part of handle.  Has any of you guys used the felt that then put on limb tips where the e string makes contact?    I have a few bear balls somewhere I thought too I’ll look for.  Also, I measured with a tape measure, and I’m under 7” of brace height.  What’s the general window for most 62” one piece recurves?

7 to 8 inches is pretty normal.Try 7.5 and go up and down from thier till you like how it feels and its quieter.

Ok. I will. Maybe that will quiet it some.
