Title: Questions for Washington Elk hunters
Post by: BTH on May 12, 2008, 04:17:00 PM
You know who you are   :wavey:

I just lucked into an invitation from an acquantance to hunt Unit 368 for the late season archery elk hunt. That's Cowitche, just north of the indian reservation in Eastern Washington. This will be an anterless/spike bull hunt the last week of November/first week of December. My first thought as a coastal California boy is "that sounds cold."
My questions are what to expect about the weather and what kind of kit you have? I'm a warm weather hunter (sometimes hot) so I don't have pack boots, wool hunting clothes, and such.
Thanks,
Toby

Toby great area...but I've seen two feet of snow there in nov.dec.and I've seen it dry and in the 40's.So it's hard to say.But I would for sure bring one warm change of clothing and a good pair of boots.bowdoc

I hunted the ajoining unit one year for 10 days, temp never got above 5 degrees.  Lots of elk that year though.

Stabow, that's what I'm worried about. I have practically no cold weather hunting gear for that type of hunt. I'd need a great sleeping bag, new boots, and great clothes. I'd be looking at a bill for the new gear I'm sure. Still thinking about going though...

My children got me a nice sleeping bag from Cabela's it's rated to 35 below it keeps me nice and toast tee and if were staying in a tent I have a little buddy heater that I fire up before getting out of bead. All the other guys in camp laugh at me because I'm cold all the time.......stabow

Thanks for that info! We'll be roughly in the middle of the unit on land against the Yakama Res.
