Well the calf hair rest on my bow was getting worn down and decided to change it. I decided to try some velcro for a rest, the smooth part and was amazed at how much better my bow shoots/groups/arrow flight. Anyway I think I'm sticking to the velcro for the rest. I might even try it for the plate as well!
My bow shoots where I look but the rest was worn down pretty good. Is my nock point to low because the way its getting beat up?? My arrows are flying better than ever!

If your are grouping high after putting the new shelf material on you can raise your nocking point until it's back where it was. I hope I understood your question.

The rest that I replaced was worn down big time, to the point where the hair was coming off. I was wondering if the nock point was to low? Or is this just normal wear from daily shooting?

i have the same problem with the calf hair rest and i also switched to velcro (plate and rest)and thats my favorite material for shelfing yet

I also use the velcro. I by the comercial grade stuff for like 4 bucks and you can get several rests and side plates out of one pack. :thumbsup:

I think any material will wear eventually. I use velcro. I get great arrow flight...still shows wear eventually though. If you weren't getting good flight, ie porpoising, I would say raise the nock pt.

My RoseOak came with a nicely form cut piece of Velcro on the rest. Works great and looks nice.

Snag, I was getting good arrow flight but the rest was just getting beat up, especially on the front/belly side of it. Not so much on the back side!
I tell I'm sold on the velcro, great arrow flight!

I have been using the industrial grade stuff too and I like it. It seems to wear better because the velcro hairs are much denser than the light duty stuff. I trick I learned is to shave the loose stray hairs from it by running a disposable razor over it. this trims it down some and helps to lessen wear also.

When I make the switch from calf hair to Hook and Loop(velcro) for the side plate I will use the Loop part(smooth). I think the hook would be to stiff and a bit noisy!

Yup, I also use the fuzzy side of adhesive backed velcro. Works well, especially for a guy like me on a budget;) Matt

Didn't read all the posts...but I gave up on velcro.
On those days you can hear a pin drop, it was too noisy to draw undetected with y arrows....So I use only calf hair now on most, what Jim Renolds puts on his bows...and what ever Bob Morrison puts on his, and what ever Ron LaClair puts on his....but not velcro.

I like to use velcro as a rest, but not for the side plate, just cause it is thicker than a leather pad, which is what I use there..
If you are getting wear on the shelf or on the rug on just the side nearest you (belly) it COULD mean you ned to raise your nock point a tad, or it COULD mean your fletching is a bit rough at the leading edge and just plain wearing it out. I think the former would show up pretty quick. Everything wears out (including me, unfortunately) so don't worry too hard about it. If your arrows fly well, be happy. As above... you may need to adjust your nock point when you change rests just cause you are now built up a bit over what was.
