Title: Pigs in Texas
Post by: Chuck Jones on March 19, 2023, 02:55:42 PM
Just returned fro a week in the Hill Country of central Texas. Five UBI members from Illinois. Things were a little slow at first, but by Wednesday and Thursday we had more action. I took a nice fat boar on Wednesday evening. Two other nice sized pigs were shot Thursday evening and recovered Friday morning. A good time was had by all.

My pig came by about an hour before sun down and stopped at around ten yards to pick up a few kernels of corn I had thrown out on the trail. I was sitting on a three legged chair in the bushes and was caught off guard with my reading glasses on, reading a book. I had to set everything down and pick up my bow when he turned away, and took the shot sitting down when he turned broadside. I got full penetration with a 225 grain Tuff Head on a sitka spruce wood arrow. Total weight 650 grains. 45# Black Rhino takedown. Got full penetration through both sides of the shields and he crashed after just 40 yards and death moaned/ squealed. All over in less than 10 seconds.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We hunted a 3000 acre private ranch. No high fences.

Great stuff!   That's a blast hunting pigs....I used to go to Texas every other year for turkeys and pigs in April, but haven't done it since the covid BS.     Congrats on your hunt.

Very nice!!.
I just returned from hunting javelina in the mountains of west Texas.  It's a great hunt but I'd like to find a place to hunt hogs.

The Hill Country is a great area to hunt pigs for sure.  Killed a few there myself and it's a beautiful part of TX.  taken them from stands and stalking.

Congrats Chuck!!!
