Well, I just can't seem to get back in the game with my shoulder and hands not able to take the pressure of shooting a bow.
But I just pulled the trigger on a 35# Bear Super Grizzly.
Hope that will get me shooting again.
I just can't do the possible alternative shooting methods.
I'm hoping :archer:

Dale, a man gotta do what a man gotta do.
Friend of mine had to drop down to 25 pounds to keep shooting.
He shot super light arrows and he hung right in there with the rest of the guys at 3D shoots.
-
Pine, I hope the 35# Grizzly will get you back shooting. :archer2:
Keep a positive mental attitude and don't give up!
If you feel yourself getting down, depressed, feeling defeated or surly come here and b**ch to us, hopefully someone can pick you up and help you out of the funk. Don't EVER give up!
Good luck and keep your chin up.

Never give up. So many things depend on the right attitude. In my experience, when things get challenging, believing that you can find a way to make it happen helps immensely.
I hope the new bow works for you. Keep us posted.

All the best there Pine. Keep it goin'

-
Heck yea. Do what you have to do to stay in the game
-
What really gets me is, just a few years ago I was shooting 60# all day long.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
-
Pine I’m in the same boat as you, when I was a young man I shot bows up to 95# ,two months ago I pulled a back muscle that still hurts like heck ,down to around 50# now ,but haven’t shot for two months hoping this thing goes away .I used to shoot every day.Getting old is no fun at all. Golden years my ass lol
-
After my surgery this past July, I couldn't shoot at all until November. Then I had to drop to 30#. I'm back to 40# now my normal Old Man weight.
-
Keep on a trying
-
Sincerely, wish you the best.
-
Agree with the others don't give up and my best with this.
-
Prayers and thoughts for you Pine,

I think I'm back in the game.
I set the brace at 8" and the nock point at 1/2".
Grabbed a 35# - 40# cedar shaft full length.
At about 5 yards, nock left about 2", up and down is perfect.
I backed off to 20 yards and just slight fishtailing.
And I still have 4" I can cut the arrow back.
I think I will have a winning combination.
:archer: :goldtooth:
-
That's great news! And a beautiful bow to boot!
-
The sweet spot is 29" BOP.
Guess what, my draw length is 28".
And I have such good arrow flight, at 20 yards I can't see the arrow, it's like a lazer beam.
And the best thing; the arrow goes where I'm looking.
:goldtooth: :archer2:
And if anyone is interested, it's dead in the hand and very quiet.
Oh, and the arrows turned out to be just over 500gr.
-
There, now it's one of my bows.
-
Ya know Pine I read this and it has kinda been knawin on me. Because all of us, should we live long enough, will go down this road a ways if not to the end of it.
I guess it just depends on what it means to you. If it's just a pass time then I guess you can find something else to interest you and spend your time on.
But I suspect that's not the case. I suspect archery is part of how you define yourself. So doing what it takes to feed your soul a little bit of what gives you peace and satisfaction should be pursued. Even if it isn't what you once could do, it's what you can do now.
Hang in there. Don't let go.
-
The bow is beautiful, Dale.
Glad you are shooting it well.
Anymore 35# is a comfortable weight for me to shoot.
-
I can't remember when the last time I was enthused about archery.
I'm actually excited about getting time to shoot.
I need to setup some arrows with Hex Blunts so I can do some roving.

What a difference 4 days and a new bow can make. It's so great to hear the positive excitement of your last post compared to the first one. Bravo! :clapper:

Thought I would let the 12 year old inside me shoot my bow today.

Lol. Enjoying it is gonna be expensive it seems!
-
Very nice shooting Dale...
-
Was going to tell you to use a mouth tab. It's deadly I'm tellin ya. But see your ok. So just for general info for other old timers like me, look up Jeff Fabry on YouTube.
And YUP, don't give up!
-
Great shooting! Where there is a will, there is a way.
Nice looking bow by the way!
-
Ordered another dozen custom arrows for this bow.
So far so good but after about 10 minutes of shooting, I'm missing to the left about 8"-10".
I think it's from getting tired and my draw is collapsing.
But, no sholder pain.
-
I'm glad the 35# bows feels good. Work hard, but don't try to progress too fast.
-
Glad to see you back in the saddle, Dale.
Atta boy!
-
How encouraging to see this. Thanks for sharing your success, it makes me feel like I'm right along with you... the thrill of victory! I can relate a little... I broke my right (drawing hand) shoulder last summer in a bicycle wreck, and spent several discouraging months with a lot of pain and slow healing.
-
Look what came on the mail. :jumper:
Got them from Larry at Lost Nation Archery.
Plane Jane arrows, no Crest but still beautiful.
-
Have you considered learning to shoot using your off side? Maybe your opposite side has many good years in it?
-
Thanks for the thought but that's not an option.
-
Pine,
Like I stated in the first page, My come back started with a 30# on a bow I reduced. I've taken about 30 of my old bows down to 35-40# and really enjoy shooting them again. Plenty of power to hunt hogs with that weight. Keep up the good recovery!

Figured this bow would look better with a Brown and Yellow string. :saywhat:

This bow looks like it belongs on my shooting range (aka) The Pinerange. :archer:

Update;
I got my Javaman Helms Deep 45# @ 28" out yesterday and I was able to do this.
Now it was only 15 yards but it made me feel like I might be coming back. :archer:
