Title: Turkeys 101
Post by: Old York on May 11, 2008, 12:44:00 PM
I just finished my very first season and left the woods covered with gallons of Mr. Turkey's "Whup-Arse".

I had no idea they could come in so fast. I had no idea a Tom would travel so darn far & come up in back of me and GOBBLE-GOBBLE-GOBBLE and sound like he was in front of me. I had no idea they have a Hubble Telescope in their head. I had no idea they are so beautiful. They seem to like coloured fletching except when it moves.

Well, there's the Fall Season and I think I've graduated to Basic Turkey 102. This time, with a  blind and a bit of luck, I may bring one home for dinner.

So good luck to all of you that hunt this magnificient bird. Stay wary & vigilant!

Atleast you had some come in close.  I had them gobbl'n but then they went quiet and never came in.  Usually when they hit the ground and gobble once or twice then shut up they are coming in. Not this year.  Closest I got this year was during the youth season with my daughter, they came in to 40yrds but not close enough for a .410.  Did find my first two morels this year though.

All you can do to help the butt whuppin is to read up as much as you can on hunting the bird, and scout your area as much as possible(especially the few days and nights before you will be hunting)!
