I usually partially screw in a large field point, clamp the point tip in the vice and slowly heat the tip while pulling straight back on the arrow then quench the shaft in cold water, just heat slowly.

i've tried heating the field point.  didn't work too good for me.  i got one out and ruined another.  the shop owners i have spoke with don't suggest it either.  i've read on some other forums to remove the nock and insert some sort of small diamaeted weight in there and sling the arrow. the idea is the weight in the shaft will nock it out of place.  i haven't tried that yet though.

I tried knocking one out as described above and didn't have any luck. I have done as katman suggested and just slowly heated the field point with a cigarette lighter. Be careful not to overheat. I did manage to damage a couple like this on the very tip, but I was cutting them off, so it didn't matter.

Use a propane torch and heat the field tip while it is held in a vise and turn the carbon shaft keeping pressure on it until the glue releases and slowly pull away from the insert. I havent had any glues or epoxies that arent heat reversible. Just dont get the flame too close to the carbon shaft. 200 grain field tips work great and suck up the heat.

What Bigron said except I find it easier to spin the field point in the flame of a propane torch for about 20 seconds then quickly chuck in the vise which is set close width needed tighten the vise so I can pull straight back slowly.  It takes a little while for the heat to reach the insert through the point.  Sometimes I have to reheat a few seconds but they come fine for me.  Have a can of water nearby to quench the carbon arrow.  John at Sipsey River told me this and it has worked fine for me.  Some have been changed several times this way.  Good luck

Heating a field point & dunking the shaft in water when you get the insert out works really well, but you have to go slow.  Apply to much heat too quickly and you wreck the shaft.
It took me a couple tries/arrows wrecked before I got the hang of it.

Apply a couple seconds of heat with a propane torch to the tip of the point, then try it with a pliers.  Don't let the tip cool off, just gradually heat & repeat this until you can pull the insert out.  Probably will come out on the 4th-5th try.

I use the wide, flat bottomed camp lantern propane bottles rather than the skinny type so the torch has a safe, stable base. I just set it on the bench which allows me to hold the arrow shaft & precisely position the field point tip in the flame.

BTW, this is why I use Hot Melt to put inserts in carbons, not glue or epoxy.  MUCH easier to work with and less chance of damaging the shaft when, not if, I have to pull it out after hitting a fence post or tree.

I use an insert tool to hold the insert in the flame, getting it just warm enough to melt the hot melt onto it.  Insert into the shaft, quickly dunk in water, then peel the excess from around the mouth of the insert...

Thank you for all the help, I have a few rifles and had a 36" cleaning rod for a 338 cal, knocked them right out

Hot water and cleaning rod or weight(piece of brass rod) works everytime for me.

what i would try is putting a 200 odd gr point in the vice and heat it up really hot. then screw the shaft on and pull back a bit. when the insert has absorbed enough heat to loosen the glue it should slide out. just a thought. haven't needed to try it. yet. let me know how you go if you try it.

I prefer to heat them with a field point screwed in. I've tried using the drill bit/rod technique, and found that it just damaged the shafts. So I just screw the field point in, heat it slowly with a blow torch and twist the point out slowly.

I do it the way leopard does. the key is not to heat or burn the carbon shaft. I use a blow touch and yes have a cup of water nearby to cool the insert after it comes out of the shaft.
