Title: Gear for first hog hunt
Post by: acedoc on January 23, 2023, 12:01:14 PM
Hi Gents ! Checked in after some time and am glad to say that I have booked a 10 day solo hog hunt in Australia with the help of Ozy Clint. I have commenced a daily archery regimen aimed to increase accuracy, endurance and reload speed.

My questions are with regards to the gear I plan to carry - bothe my Toelke’s will be in play and I use the same arrows for both bows being very similar in draw weight 55@ 33. I plan to carry a side quiver and a bow quiver in addition to a day pack. The bow quiver is the EFA 4 arrow and I am looking at several other options including the Safarituff , Farr West and omnivores quiver. Any recommendations will be welcome.

Also I have a query regards the broadheads - I have Simmons 190 grain , eskillites and some VPA 3 blades. Even after labouring for 02 days I have been unable to get the Zwickeys hair popping with the KME system no less. The Simmons sharpen up way better and the 3 blades are easy enough to sharpen. Any recommendations- I want at least 220 grains up front with full length black eagle vintage arrows for a total arrow weight of 550 grains.

Any other piece of kit or any inputs will be appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like a fun hunt!  Never have been to Australia but hunt pigs constantly here in Texas and can tell you that a sharp head, low and tight to the front leg will put them down quick.  Regardless of the continent they are on.  Treat your clothes with permethrin.  Good luck and post some good pics.
