I don't know about you gents , but once the tags are filled & the weather sours we can spend less time getting out . Stretching the legs , the bow limbs ,the mind -body-soul and lungs taking in the good life.....
So as I looked out my window and spotted a nice little Gray Squirrel enjoying the mid days warmth , I took it as a sign . Grabbed my boots , bow and quiver and raced off for some much needed cabin fever relief.
...a short little Squirrel/stump Hunt-scout-adventure was calling on this warm Jan day.......
-
...just a little valley down from a narrow I hunt often for whitetails. Good way to see what has made it through bow season , rifle , and smoke-stick... Though the numbers are down heavily , I did see good seed sign for the coming seasons.
-
....a stream runs through it . and in the stream life drifts by.....Nature is a beautiful thing ....

...Big or small-short or Tall. It never fails to replenish what is missing ...running low.....calling.
-
...though no critters were harmed on this outing , it sure did this Ol' Wolf a world of Good .
Thanks for coming along , and don't forget to get out and enjoy what little remains..........
To quote a wise man....
"Immerse yourself in the outdoor experience. It will cleanse your soul and make you a better person."

Man that looks like some great time out and about! Love the woods this time of year when our rain lets us out of home jail! Squirrels are on the back burner but, rabbits are still in season here 'til end of next month. I'm hoping to get in 1 or 2 chases on them before end of Feb.
-
Thanks wannabe1....Our tree rat season ends with Jan...briar racers through Feb 28th....So hope to get out a few more times before that ends as well......Best with your time afield my freind , and look forward to the stories :campfire:
-
I did the same thing today. I’m a very new hunter, so it was really cool just to find a bunch of deer sign. I even had an interaction with a doe that I watched about 40 yards from me for about 30 minutes. Coulda sworn she was gonna wind me but she never did. Just slowly walked off. It was an amazing experience. Hoping to have more like it in the years to come.

Good stuff David .
Nothing beats actual field obsevation/experience to learn animal habits, movements, reactions .
Year round wild exposure is the Best teacher.....Best with your travels and quest my friend along the great Path......
-
great :clapper:

Thanks Kelly !
-
Thanks for sharing Ralph!👍👍 Time in the woods soothes the soul.
-
Thank you Randy ......if it wasn't for the wild in my life I would be a very Looney Wolf ;^)
No matter the issues of life , time spent afield enjoying our "natural life" always clears my mind body and soul.....
-
I've been out stumping and doing some scouting the last couple of weeks. Lucky enough to find a shed on one outing.
-
Nice find soap creek !
I didn't cover much land this day. Pretty low numbers of deer anyway, but this isn't a good late season area. Most of the few deer here are just moving through. Big woods on down a ways where most of the deer late winter. Used to be where I did most of my stumping-roving-/shed hunting etc.....sadly that was sold off a number of years ago..., and off limits these days......I miss the long woodland roves more than anything , but the all around hunting was always prettygood in that Big old growth woods. Gone are those days.........Enjoy what you have before it is gone my friends......>>>----------------> :campfire:
-
:campfire:I need some of that myself brother...thanks for the walk ..;^)
-
Thanks Rich
Hey Brother , you need to take us all along on one of those fine upstate NY Hare hunts ....
Talk about some beautiful scenery !
-
I'm working on that...Misty is tagging along ... :archer:
-
Nice rove Ralph! Waist deep snow kills the stump hunting till spring. Glad to see you getting out.
-
Thanks Tony .
It started out as a lazy squirrel hunt/rove....Squirrels didn't cooperate , choosing to stay den locked ;)
Nonetheless , I always have a great time in my proper place . Nature .....
Best your way brother. I know you are enjoying natures gifts of the North MI ways... :campfire:

Great recount of a good day out with the bow, and man River Wolf, what excellent pictures !!
It's hot days and warm nights here. Hunting/roving is a bit hard at the moment, plenty of waist high (and higher) grass and other assorted foliage, makes finding any game here a bit more of a challenge. And with all the growth, loosing scary numbers of arrows is ridiculously easy
Also, with the higher summer temperatures at the moment, when sneaking through the bush one is very conscious of our ever present "Danger Noodles" (snakes). Makes for some interesting and sometimes exciting days out. They don't frighten me, as I catch and re-locate them for people here, but I certainly respect them. But when one has an unexpected close encounter with a hefty specimen, it can definitely increase your pulse rate a tad.
That said though, there most certainly is enormous value in spending that quality time out in the bush with our Creator and a bow.
Thanks again for taking us along, really enjoyed it.
Best
Lex

Thank you for the kind words Lex .
.....Much appreciated my friend !
Always enjoy sharing my time afield...and seeing other bowhunters roving grounds......it's fun to share these things.
I'm a NORTH WOLF , and love the cold/snow. Just we seem to be in one of those years lacking much white & fluffy ......don't do well in heated air myself .
I do enjoy summertime scouting roves . Even on those I usually carry a couple broadhead tipped arrows for any ground griz I might encounter .. (GroundHog's)
......Just something special everytime we walk the wild paths... bow in hand....
Good to see another that respects snakes ...
....Nature isn't just for the things we admire/like.... she's a system, and within it's great diversity lies BALANCE ..... :campfire:

Thanks Riverwolf, for posting this. I need these kind of threads, it relaxes me, and it’s good to know there are others out there that appreciate the best things in life, which also happen to be the simplest.
All I can say, is ‘Amen’.
-
Thank you Randy .
I agree...nothing calms the soul & mind like Nature walks.....Nature walks with bow in hand .....be mighty special ...be it the targets made of fur-fin-feather....or simply stumps-leaves-twigs. A special place it be......
As mentioned above, I've always enjoyed sharing my wild walks....and enjoy seeing other wildseekers pathways ....The Roving archers world is a beautiful wild place. These type threads allow us to share some of that with each other.....
Thank you for coming along ..... :campfire:

Snow is too deep for stumping but managed to get some snowshoe roves in. My wolf pack runs the frozen river and several two-tracks I own.

Still past my knee (Was waist deep), the wolves can run on the crust as we had some warmer weather come through. I’m able to walk on the snowshoe trail with boots but not so much off trail lol.

Second time today the cow moose was ahead of my wife. She’s good luck…

Waist deep "crusty" snow ...That makes my Knees & Back hurt just thinking about it :scared:
Love walking in snow, but last time I did a LONG walk-about in deep snow with a thick crust like that (the kind that ALMOST holds your weight;) had my back jacked around for DAYS ! Getting old (and busted up )sucks
