I am a salesman that travels frequently. Usually I am out one night a week, but I always take my bow and find an archery shop to shoot at. Tonight I went to a range to shoot. I had about 45 minutes before a 3D league started. So I jumped in and started shooting. There were about 25 other guys there shooting, I had the only recurve. Before long I had 4 or 5 people standing behind me watching me shoot, and one of them commented I could keep it in the kill zone with just about everyone. Then he says "Here we are with our $800 bows, and you are shooting an old recurve and shooting as well as we are" I loved it, but I did not have the heart to tell him my BW PSAX cost me $1,200 and I just got it in November of 2006 HA.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago when I took an advanced bow hunter's class that the state was putting on. If you start telling them about your kinetic energy it will really blow their minds.

I especially like it when you are warming up at a 3D tournament shooting with a bunch of the high tech fellas and you let three arrows go and they all seem to be touching and one of them looks up and says "not bad" or "holy s@*t". That really makes me smile...

Hey Tom I am in St Louis tonight. I will be in Cape in a couple of weeks.

You should see what happens when your shooting with a bunch a tech guys shooting from the same stake as them and then break three knocks of their arrows at three different targets, all in the inside small ring. They just look at you in disbelief. And smile and laugh.

Or - worst still - like me sometimes on a bad day. You spray a few arrows all over the show - and they nod their collective heads and can be heard mumbling something to the tune of "you can see why we shoot compounds"!#$%^#$%^%@#$^%!!

Why is it that when compounders see a trad bow most think it's an inexpensive old toy? Frank

What really kills me is when they think a recurve or longbow is an old, inexpensive toy, and then when I tell them I paid $900 for my Silvertip, I get the:"You paid $900 for a piece of wood?".
I really blows their mind!

Its that "US and THEM" Mentality again. I know, it will NEVER Go Completely away.
I agree its a Awsome Feeling Making a Target X with my Recurve, and the Compounders, turn to Look at you like "You cant DO That With a Recurve". Or My Personal Favorite "Beginners Luck", then shoot consistantly the Rest of the Session. There will be a Friendly Pat on the Shoulder or even just "Good Shooting Buddy".
We just NEED to REMEMBER how Many Members have either Just "Crossed Over" from Compounds to Our Trad. ways. And let the NEW MEMBERS Know that We Have Damn-Near All Crossed Over, just at Different Times in Life. :archer:
I was Very Lucky to have a MENTOR/ Good Neighbor , that still Swaps Back & Forth on Occasion, just to Remind Himself that "It Doesnt Matter WHAT You Shoot, Or HOW You Shoot It. It Is ALL Archery and there is More than enough Room for Everyone "That Wants to Come Out and Play!!" :archer: :goldtooth:
Just MY Own Opinion, of course.
