Title: Grey Wolf Woolens
Post by: buckeyebowhunter on November 28, 2022, 09:43:46 AM
I am interested in a pair of grey wolf bibs and was looking to see if anyone had any experience with them. I've always been intrigued by the grey wolf stuff, they also have some cool patterns. Obviously that is a lot of coin to drop on a set of bibs, but I think I could justify the cost per wear with my wife as much as I hunt in the fall.

Wondering how well they keep the wind off of you. We don't get that many frigid days during the rut here in Ohio, but the wind, especially this year has been awful.

I have a set of Cabela's stand hunter bibs, that I've had for probably close to 10 years. They are excellent bibs, and by far the warmest thing I own but they are so darn bulky that I can't do any sort of mobile hunting in them. They're great if you are just going to a ladder stand or sitting in a ground blind but as far as climbing at all it's out of the question because of the bulk. I have no problem with the jacket because I can just pack it in and put it on in the stand. So I am looking for a less bulky replacement for the stand hunter bibs.

Appreciate any input you guys can offer!

I don't have their Bibs, but I have had their custom fit Pull Over and Pants for YEARS....

They still looks new. I layer up with Smartwool Merino Top, and may add the bottoms if needed.

Wool vest, and thin wool sweater then my pullover.  I absolutely LOVE my Grey Wolf.  I wear this when its going to get 'bone shilling'.  I also might lose the sweater, if its milder.

They have adjustments for the waist, and  a cinch down system for your arms.

Grey Wolf is a VERY good investment, I have no boys, but if I ever have a grandson. I'll be able to pass it down.

I DO have some Bibs from Asbell, they are NOT too bulky, and very well made, I also have a couple of their anoraks.  I wear their garments when it's not bone chilling.  I will be passing these down as well.

I was in the high end wool carpet for a long time and I know quality when I see it.

BTW, if any of y'all are seeing these 'commercials' claiming the wonders of 'Modern Wool"???  I would never buy from that company.  There is no such thing as modern wool !!!  If you start out stating BS, you aren't going to get my business, as I have no idea what you are BSing behind the scenes.

If you would like to know more about wool, email me your phone # and a good time to call.

I like their stuff.  It's a pretty tight weave, but no wool will entirely block the wind.  Will need to incorporate a wind block layer somewhere or live with it.

You'll have to get used to the wind as well.

They make quality stuff. I had an insulated vest made last year that is super warm. I also have 3 pairs of their Wolfskin pants that I bought used on Tradgang classifieds years ago that still look new. They wear incredibly well.

My thoughts on Gray Wolf as I posted Terry’s link above:

I have Gray Wolf insulated bibs, uninsulated pants, insulated vest, insulated jacket, custom mittens, and bomber hat, that are my go to colder weather gear. I have King of the Mountain in their version of most of the above items, they mostly sits in the closet because the Gray Wolf is warmer.
When ordering, order cargo pockets, they do not come with them.  In addition, order cinch straps on your bow arm, their coat arms are a little bulky and arm guards are a PIA in cold weather.

Wore my insulated GW bibs, KOM Shirt, and GW jacket, on stand last week when it was -15.  An hour into the hunt, I shot this years buck, I was comfortable, and still comfortable when I got off the stand an hour later.  A little bulky, but I do not have any problem climbing into my treestands.

I highly recommend Hidden Wolf, excellent quality, and excellent customer service.

I have their wool bibs which are insulated and they are very warm, I use them on the very cold days. I don't think you could get cold when you wear them but you will have to pack them in to your stand. I did not get any pockets when I had mine made and   I wish I would have.

You best contact them directly.
I 'm pretty sure they no longer offer the wool option.
their stuff is nice both the wool they had and the wolfskin material as well. Just got a new pair of wolfskin pants and took my old ones to them to size exact same and they turned out great.

I own a bunch of their stuff. Great people and great gear. I will admit Lori and Bill are friends, but their gear is top notch none the less. They no longer can get wool material, so that is not an option. Their wolfskin is a great product, get it with the primaloft insulation and windstopper lining, it will keep you warm, that I can assure you.Custom made clothes that as Terry said, use it for years and it still will hold up. I have a pullover I bought in 1999 that I still wear every year most of the season,
and I hunt a lot.

Thanks for the replies, i spoke with Lori today and she was very friendly and informative. I am going to order a set of bibs, and probably a jacket or pullover as well at some point.

I just ordered an expansion panel from Lori yesterday.  I didn't know there was such a thing.  I had outgrown my jacket and was emailing them and she suggested making a small panel that will zip in the front and expand the jacket.  What a great idea.  I ordered one right off, we'll see how it works.

Y'all ordered from some of the best. Like big river I dont say that because I consider lori and bill friends but because I love their garments. You will only replace it if you outgrow it.

As I said I ordered an expansion panel for my jacket.  It came and works excellent.  So good in fact I ordered the same things for my bibs.  So nice to work with good people.   :bigsmyl:
