Title: Hunting with my grandson
Post by: MnFn on October 25, 2022, 11:29:05 AM
I had a great 2 1/2 day hunt with my grandson, this past week.  One of the worst ever for seeing deer. But we had a great time.
I used my Liberty English longbow.

I didn’t come close to even getting a shot. But as we walked in, I covered everything I could think of regarding hunting. Looking for intersecting trails, which way deer were moving, deer tracks, scrapes, rubs. How to really slow down and walk as quietly as possible and observe natural things.

The highlight of one day was my grandson said “Grampa, I see a doe coming towards us”. Well, I couldn’t see anything as it was about quitting time.  I kept looking and finally saw something moving towards us, about eighty yards away but it didn’t look like a deer.
Finally Miles said is that a cat?  Yup. My first sighting of a bobcat while hunting.

After I returned home, my daughter texted me and asked “how much would a longbow cost for Miles?”  Yes, he’s hooked.

Wonderful, what an excellent time.....

First the great time with your grandson, and then the phone call, how cool is that.

I absolutely love it when someone calls up looking to get a bow after we've introduced them to trad bows. And have it be your grandson....that's even better  :clapper:

Best
Lex

Great story and a fine job.

I've also enjoyed what time I've had with my grandson this year.  He can see and hear better than I, but not near as quiet:)

Tyler said "Grandpa you must be the best bowhunter ever" bet I will never hear that again!
There is hope, he has a younger brother!

My oldest Grandson started out with a compound then switched to an arrow gun and is now hunting with a recurve. It just took him a while to learn what bowhunting is about.

Nice story.  Kid wanting a longbow afterwards is heart warming.
