When I shoot my bow I can hear the string pop tight. I do have beaver balls on the string for silencers. Any thoughts? :dunno:

More details, bow wt, draw length etc.
Could be brace height issue, needing heavier arra's. Hard to say..

Bow weight is 48# draw is 27.5 inches arrow weight is 685 grains. Tuned to bullets wholes in paper. String sound is a twang. No vibration or hand shock. :scared:

Don't know what you mean by "string pop tight." If you're shooting a recurve, and if it has a groove on the belly side of the limbs to center the string, the limb(s) may be twisted and what you hear is the string popping back into the groove at the end of the shot. Maybe. Total guess on my part. Draw the bow and let it down slowly, watching where the string makes contact with the limb as it gets to brace. If it's outside the slot and pops back in, the limb is twisted.

Perhaps its the Beaver silencers.Folks install them differently.If your wrapping them around the string barber pole style they may not be tight enough and fitting loose with some slack.Or maybe thier too fat in width and its hard to get them to wrap really tight before you insert them through the string.I am talking flemish twist string.The ones that were cut thin worked best for me for wrapping tightly and neatly
I had some that were too loose and they made noise and I adjusted them.
You might try some wool puffs or cat whiskers.Or just try and get the beaver on as tight as possible to the string if your doing it barber pole style.If those options dont work its something else

I only have beaver balls on one bow, and I wondered about this when I put them on. How do you get them tight? If the bow is unstrung when you put them on, I don't see how you can get them tight on a loose string. If the bow is strung, I don't see how you can get the ends through the string?
I'm sorry to digress, but maybe the OP would like to know this too.

I shot beaver balls for years had the same problem what found that if they get wet they dry out and get hard and will not be tight on your string so check that out.

I've had one or two bows over the years that were EXTREMELY picky about silencer placement. That's another huge disadvantage to the beaver fur wraps in my opinion... can't move them easily.

Recurve or longbow, tiller, glove or tab, split or three under?

The sound is tink is the best way to discribe it. bow is tillered three under and I shoot that way

It's surprising sometimes when just sliding a whisker up or down only and inch or two can really change the sound of the bow.
Which is why I only use whiskers as every bow is different. One likes two bigger ones and another likes four much smaller ones.
ALSO the brace height can really affect the sound as well.

Silencers don't make a tink sound, regardless of what kind they are or where they're placed. Did you check your limbs for twist?
A hard string material (i.e., low stretch string) and or hard serving (monofilament, for example) leading to and around the string loops might also be a cause. Could be some sort of string slap. If you're shooting a recurve, moleskin in the limb tip string grooves, or a wool wrap around the string near the limb tips will quiet that noise.
Of course, if you have a two- or three-piece bow, the sound could be coming from the mating surfaces moving against each other at the conclusion of the shot. It can also make a click/tick at any point during the draw. Even a bow-mounted quiver can make that kind of noise. Lots of possibilities.
Addendum: Just noticed the bows you list under your avatar. I think most of those are hybrids or longbows. Some 3-piece. I'd put my money on bow generated noise rather than string noise. One way to find out/narrow it down is to take off the silencers. I suppose if the leather in the beavertails became severely dried out, it could produce a cracking sound as the bow is drawn. Doubt you would hear anything from it at release though.
From your description, i can't tell whether you're hearing the noise on the draw or at the conclusion of the shot. If it's at the draw, even an overly waxed string will make a "snick" as it pulls away from a recurve limb tip on the draw.

I had a bow that once gave me a noise which I thought was just the string slap and after I wrapped the loops with yarn or should I say the “Y” section that helped and it still had this slight annoying tick like you mentioned.
So I made a tie on nock for above And under the arrow nock and that solved the problem.
I haven’t read or notice anyone mentioning two tie on nocks so it’s worth a try if all else fails.

get another string, install nock point NO SILENCERS and shoot. If there's no unwanted "tink" noise, install wool puffs or short cat whiskers and shoot some more to confirm your still good. You'll have a back up string if nothing else. Leave the beaver balls with the beavers :archer2:
