I'm interested in getting a set of "super curl" limbs for my October Mountain Products 17" ILF riser.
Other details: I'm shooting off of the shelf with 3 fingers under, 27" DL and approximately 45# of DW.
I intend to shoot a carbon arrow with 4" feathers and a high FOC. This will be my hunting setup, but will also be utilized for 3D shooting too.
So, do I get a set of "longs" or "mediums" or "shorts"? :dunno:
Personally, I'd prefer the longer set of limbs for a smooth draw cycle. As I understand the extreme curled limbs, the "curl" doesn't get used, if it's not matched to the Draw Length. What I'm asking is: Would a set of "longs" get used/uncurled at my 27" DL, to get the benefit of that type of limb?
* I may end up going to a traditional archery pro shop and actually drawing a set of these limbs to know, before ordering a set and finding out the hard way. :thumbsup: I'm currently shooting a set of DAS 3K limbs @ 35#.

The maker of the limbs will tell you in the description of the limbs what length bow a long, medium or short limb will make on a certain riser. For example, they may say that medium limbs on a 19” riser will result in a 62” bow. So in your case, the same limbs would result in a 60” bow, and the poundage would increase by a couple of pounds from the poundage stated for a 19” riser.. But you can't just rely on the word “medium.” You have to find out what medium means for the particular limbs you are interested in, as I described above.
I have the riser and limbs I described above, and the 62” bow bends the supercurve limbs adequately at my 28” draw length. I would imagine a 60” bow would bend the limbs adequately for your 27” draw, but you should double check that either by drawing the limbs yourself, or checking with a real expert, which I am not.

Speed and draw cycle. Border makes the best, but lots of folks like Morrison Max6. The Max 6 compares to older Borders, i.e. Hex7 series.
My Borders load early but draw weight increases very little over the last couple of inches.

Hence the question of the OP: what is the optimal length limbs to ensure that you’re in the “sweet spot” where the draw curve flattens out at full draw. If you were still in the loading phase, you would not benefit from shooting a supercurve.
I’ve shot the Border and the Bob Lee Cobracurve side by side, and prefer the Bob Lee.

Do you mean hand shock? Quite the opposite in my experience. My Shikari is dead in the hand, and the quietest recurve I have ever shot. Of course, it is a heavy mass weight bow. The only recurve I have ever shot that is heavier than the Shikari is my Bob Lee Ultimate. I originally bought the CobraCurve limbs only to use with my Ultimate, and later bought the Shikari riser so that I could have two complete bows. I'm very happy with both of them.

I've shot several different brands of the super curl limbs and they're all dead in the hand, fast and quiet. :thumbsup:
When I actually purchase my next bow & limbs, I'll probably go to 3 Rivers Archery and shoot different limb and riser length combinations, to find what I like. Originally, I had intended to just buy the limbs to go with my 17" wood laminated riser. However, it may be beneficial for me to go with a longer riser and medium or shorter limbs. :)
