Title: Not Root or Pearson what is it?
Post by: Scubadogs on August 27, 2022, 01:48:45 PM
I'm asking for help identifying my bow i just recieved. No markings, its a Recurve, has white limbs back and face, 66" or 67" long, and it is about 32# pull. The riser is very unique wood work. I thought it my be a Pearson or Root as they had many unique riser through the years but I could not find it. Can you take a look at the riser pics and maybe someone point me in the right direction?? I scaned most of the catalogs on Vintage Archery org but no luck.

Possibly an Indian but I'm not sure.
Someone else might have a better idea.

I've looked through a lot of Indian Archery catalogs and did not see anything with so much layering of wood.  The shape of my riser looks fairly common but it is the layering of the riser that make is so unique.

I'm thinking more like a '65 Darton Dynamic, or a '62 Stemmler New Mogul. Early to mid 60's, and one of the smaller companies. The Mogul matches the lams but not the length, and the Dynamic matches the length, but the laminates are a little different.

I saw the Dynamic and it is close but like you stated the laminates are different.  I would think the laminates would be like a fingerprint and be able to ID this quickly but this is not the case. It is a beautiful bow. Hard times have forced me to put it up on ebay.:( :banghead:

I think that could be:

- a York Archery 1960, '61, '62 or '63 Super Crest,
- or a York Archery 1964 Thunderbolt IV.

The riser layup tended to change a bit even within a same model and year depending on who layed them up, but the riser profile is very similar to the Super Crest and maybe has a hint of the Thunderbolt IV, especially if they had a touch of cutomization for a customer.

Anyway, hope this helps!

Yes the Super Crest does have the similar footprint.  I now believe this was maybe a one off home build that followed the lines of another bow.  There are a lot of bows out there with the similar look even though they may work diferently from smooth to snappy. I had to let this one go do to the tuff times we are in. Thanks for the research!
