Summer doldrums???
I retired (temporarily most likely) in June. Going to spend time with my granddaughter who was born in June. Went hunting in South Africa. Made a trip to Minnesota for the second time this year. Plus we have made it to numerous shoots. We attended Compton, Cloverdale, KyTradFest, Greencastle PA while visiting Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields.
We still have to go to South Carolina for our youngest graduation from basic training. He has a week and then we move him back to college. Plus, we still have more shoots to attend.
No doldrums here.
-
Always busy in the summer, just had the grandkids here for 4 days ,lots of bow shooting , 3 bows in the workshop getting refinished, 4 big mulie racks just got boiled , plaques are made soon to be euro mounts for my grandson. Shooting lots.

Mr. Terry Green
Welcome to Trad Gang. You have any hunting lies, oops I mean stories:)
This is my group at the practice range:)
:wavey:

I don't usually say much. I like to read and learn and hit the "like" button. :campfire:
I haven't got much office time at work thus far this summer. We started a project for "Uncle Sam" and I have to be on site daily as quality assurance and safety. Office time allows me to "browse" the interweb a little. We got rained out today so I'm browsing :biglaugh:

Nice job Mr Roy!
And you shot from different areas of shop too without damaging any arrows!!

Witherstick, I'm not talking about you having summer doldrums, its always slow in the summer HERE at Tradgang. That what I was talking about.
All that stuff I mentioned in my 1st post certainly isn't doldrums. Running around with kids is a blast. I'm just ready to here some hunting stories!!! :jumper:
-
Just getting back to it after a year and a half layoff. I'd share, but none of my pix look like Roy's anymore. More like Ray Charles.
-
Yeah Terry !
I’ve been thinking the same thing. It’s been kind of boring lately without any hunting tales. I can’t wait.
-
my stories are all old ones right now. but working on a knife for a friend and trying to shoot as much as allowed. Got 4 young grandkids shooting bows with cane arrows
-
Tradslinger, we like old stories !!!
-
Terry, I got what you meant. But maybe the doldrums here are because too many are too busy between the Fall hunting seasons.
Not to worry, we’re almost there!
-
Yes. It happens every year.

Just returned from backpacking trip in Snowy Range of Wyoming. Never saw so many high country lakes on one trip. Fishing was good. Lost 2 pounds due to mosquitoes!
-
i did a little bowfishin, couple weeks ago. didnt shoot much, was holding out for for a whopper. been shootin in the backyard some, when it aint 130 degrees in the shade.

Loving summer.
Pinched a nerve in my lower back and got talked into trying a chyro-quacktor. Went two times and was actually was getting better when the “doc”gave me the Covid.
Good times.
Over it now, so it is back to prepping for fall. (Got six 4 Blade Deltas so that should keep me busy sharpening for the next month or two, just saying)
I am going to go full in on hunting public ground in the Ozarks.
Mountain hunting has been a frustrating leaning experience, but I am chipping away at it a little at a time.
I have been blessed to kill some really nice bucks in the last twenty years, mostly in the big woods of the Arkansas delta and 3 in Kansas.
So a few years (or more) of getting humbled won’t hurt.

I hope to be posting my reaction to a new widow PAX Carbon this week. Weight was missed twice or I'd already have it.
I retired a year ago. Woodworking projects keep me busier than I thought they wood. Learning to use my drone, rc airplanes, and involving grandchildren in all the above have me hopping (on one leg).
I go tomorrow morning to schedule a right hip replacement.

No summer doldrums here…Finished planting food plots 16 and 17 on Saturday….moved large heavy ground blind a quarter of mile and set up Sunday right where I had been running a couple of cams since last October….still have much to complete before September…
Also, working to improve my own mental game as I have let a solid 160’s buck(12 yards) and a solid 150’s buck(14 yards) slip thru my fingers the past two seasons…both errors were due to impatience.
-
Moved and set this blind up yesterday. Took this pic from where several shooter bucks have been both standing and traveling.
-
Sorry, no hunting stories. The last couple of years haven’t been kind to my health . Would give a new bow to hunt the ridgeline behind my son’s house in Pa.

All here bud! Have been busy with work and chasing around a 15 month old, but try and chime in when I can. Will be much more frequent with season getting close!

Yeah, he got busy telling them after I started this thread.... :shaka:

September 1st starter is getting close. If the weather is tolerable I'll try to put a deer down....otherwise I'll spend some afternoons shooting doves.
Finally got a break in the weather so I'm going to try to get a camera or two up. Fletching some arrows for a buddy who is a new trad shooter. Shooting most nights. Everytime I "decide" what bow I want to carry, I start shooting a different one...lol. Typical summer stuff.

Summer has been pretty busy around around here so far. A new job and new vehicle have been taking up a lot of my time right now, but still been trying to make a little bit of time every evening to shoot in the back yard or head to the range for a bit. Haven't done as much summer scouting as I'd like but am hoping to change that here fairly soon.
As of right now most of my prep work is getting ready for mule deer in September so I'm spending a lot of time on the phone with biologists and scouting via Google maps and such. It's been taking up what little free time I have right now, but I really enjoy it. Figured practicing in this heat probably isn't the worst idea since I doubt it I'll be much cooler in September in Nebraska. Looking forward for everyone's fall to get going though and for the hunting stories to start rolling in!
-
Sorry, but not much happening here. It's been extremely hot all summer, so my shooting is in the back yard loosing 20 to 30 arrows at a time. Soon, it will be time to repair and possibly relocate some of the ladder stands. Besides, I don't have a whole lot of interesting stories to tell. Perhaps I could relate some of the new cuss words I've invented since trying to quit plucking the bow string. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it would keep you busy for a while.
-
Maybe somebody could start a White Elephant Swap so we can go through a bunch of gear and stuff before season starts and pass it along.
Always fun to get in on.
I started it last summer. so I'll let someone else have the honors this year.
-
Building arrows for me and others. Fine tuning my wood arrows for a couple new longbows. Working on habitat at camp. Spending a bit of time at the lake. Working with our stubborn Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Pretty much sums up the recent couple months.

In just over a month heading back to Alaska moose hunting. 20 years since my 1st trip up there, and this will be my 6th. Planning on going more often in the next 20 😀. My buddy has been going up lots longer, hoping to help him pack a moose this year. I ain't in a big hurry myself, I only need one.
Been fooling around getting set up for that trip as well as taking care of 3 different deer hunting places. The wife is nuts to fish in the salt, so whenever we have time off in the spring or summer we run down to the Coast.
Still manage to squeeze work in somehow....been on short timeline high priority stuff last few years (I work in Pharma) so it's been nuts on timelines. Wanting to write more, been working on a project on and off, but life gets in the way!
Best 3 months of the year coming up soon! Ready to spend some time in a tree....

It's been an extremely busy summer. Thankfully I retired three years ago so at the very least....I've had the time to do it all. I've been shooting daily in anticipation of an elk hunt that I leave for in about a month. Been getting used to my heavier bow limbs and seeing what arrow combo tunes the best. The latter aspect of finding the right arrow has been more difficult than it should have been.
Got my house and land of for sale...so I have been mowing weekly and double timing the cleaning and upkeep. Given a new September archery season here, I have hung about 12 stands in the last couple of weeks in addition to keeping my hunting camp up.
I also have a new grand daughter that is due to be born today! Headed to the hospital in a few hours.
It's been an unusual summer; but I still try to look at the forum and make a post or two on occasion:)

We've been to NE 3 times, twice was nice weather, last time it was 106 when we rolled in, and stayed that way while we were there. 80+ at night , sweatin in the tent... Deer moved for a few minutes after daylight only.
Only time ever we cut a hunt short. I hope you get a good week or two!! Good luck!
-
Been laid up for a while trying to figure out how to tell everyone about a new bow I've got. :shaka:

Been really busy, trying to get all my projects done before hunting season opens. Both daughters look at me as their personal handyman. Parents , although in pretty good health for their age are requiring more of my time. I guess it’s nice to be needed.
-
My daughter is home from college and working remote, so we have been knocking the heck out of the bluegill and catfish in our spare time. Shooting some and got some trail cams out, but nothing to hunt right now.

Talk about doldroms...
I haven't pulled a bow since June 4, when I had a bad bicycle wreck and broke my right (drawing arm) shoulder. Then... I twisted my knee real bad and it's been swollen and very hard to walk for a couple weeks. And... my septic field has failed, and I'm just so thrilled to get to pay someone to put in a new one next month.... And for the past three months something weird is going on and my electric bill has been triple what it should be.
I would say I'm looking forward to getting back in the woods... I'm in Alaska, and hunting season is coming! But I can't draw a bow or maybe even hold a gun. Can't even go for a decent walk in the woods!
I would LOVE to hear some good Tradgang stories to take my mind off all this stuff!

Well this time of year has me doing a lot of unloading and reloading ammo for Cowboy Action Shooting. Most of the archery clubs take a break for the summer. Summer in Alaska is short and most Alaskans are filling their freezers with Salmon and Halibut. I still try to shoot at least 30 arrows a day at home, however;
I found out the hard way that shooting a bag target with Zwickey Eskimo broadheads is a bad idea. I went out and bought a foam target rated for “all broadheads” and will continue to practice till hunting season.
-
Been working on my cabin located on 40 acres in the Alaska Range, been up two or three days every week since May working on it (It will never be done!) Waiting for next month August when caribou, moose open. Going out in two weeks on the Denal Highway to hunt for close to a week for moose/caribou with family (it will be gun as they need at least 2 moose). before I go back to hunt around my cabin in late Aug/Sept with a bow for myself. Sad that i didn't draw a sheep tag (they can be seen from the cabin) this year. Nor a buffalo either. Oh well.......I'm at least busy.
-
It's still extremely hot, so I'm mostly sitting around with my thumb misplaced...
-
I'm retired now 2 years. Thought I just hunt and fish all the time. Not so. I do more than I did, just not as much as I thought I would. Been working some , also volunteered at a local Bible camp for maintenance type projects. Been able to attend more shoots. Staying plenty busy.

Struggling again with frequently recurring A-Fib. Been affected on-and-off with this for about the last 10 years. Scheduled for another Cardioversion (#5) on August 8 and then another Heart Ablation (#2) on September 1. Hoping this will restore regular heart rhythm so that I can regain my strength and energy level. Been real tired for about 2 months and unable to participate in activities I love like golf and archery which drain my energy quickly. Getting old ain't for sissies!

Been off the grid for a while, Terry.... But, I'm BACK NOW!!! :bigsmyl:
