does anyone know of any way to stiffen the spine of a carbon arrow. i am looking for ideas. i have a arrow i want to shoot but it is too weak with the point i want to use. i don't want to add weight to the back of the arrow.
i thought about adding about 3 or 4 inches of an aluminum arrow behind the insert inside the arrow but i thought that if the arrow flexed then it would bend the aluminum arrow and i would have a bunch of bend arrows, as if i were using aluminum arrows. would that happen ? i thought about adding wood behind the insert but haven't tried that yet. does anyone have any suggestions

Wouldn't adding 3 or 4 inches of interior shaft behind the insert weaken spine, seeing as in would be like adding point weight? I'd think you'd need to cover the entire length of the shaft to stiffen spine...
...I believe that adding some overall weight, such as weedeater line or aquarium tubing, would effectively stiffen the spine....
I think if you added any weight to the shaft it would weaken the spine as there would be more forces applyed to the shaft when it is released. Two ways to stiffen it is to shorten the shaft or remove point weight.
Shorten the shaft or shoot less point weight. Or as ya do not want to do, add weight to the rear of the shaft. Adding anything to the front will weaken the spine. Shawn
i understand that adding weight to the front of the arrow weakens the spine. my theory was that if i added something like wood in the front it would shorten the working part of the arrow thereby overall spine would be stiffer.
i just want this arrow to work and am complicating things trying to get it to fly right. i may have to give up and accept this wont work.
You can use the Gold Tip nock adaptor and weights which will allow you to add weight to the rear of the shaft. It will stiffen the spine. Let me know if I can help with that need.
Build your shelf out a bit if you don't want to add weight to the rear of the arrow.
Take the insert out and push the arrow into some dense styrofoam like blue or pink board forcing the foam into the inside of the arrow. That may stiffen it up a bit and shouldn't add too much weight.

Sell the ones you have and get the ones you need... best way to get it done properly. Just another alternative.

1. Build your shelf plate out a bit. Depending how weak your arrow, this may solve the problem.
2. Decrease point weight.
3. Increase Brace height.
4. Cut down arrow.
**Remember, only change one variable at a time**
