Little background first......
I've been a "trad" bowhunter for two years now.
My 16 year old son has been shooting a compound since he was 14.......and got his first deer with it last year. He has also shot wild hogs with it.
In addition.....he shoots on an NASP team with the Genesis bow. He is ranked 8th in the state of Indiana for H/S boys and ranked 13 of all male shooters in the state. He'll be competing in Nationls this Saturday in Louisville, KY.
It's time to get him a new bow.
As you know....in NASP competition the Genesis bow are shot without sights.....and 3 fingers under.
All the sudden it hit me....if he can shoot that good.....why get him a compound bow? Get him a trad bow. He is all for it. If he starts now at 16.....can you imagine how good he'll be when he's my age....49??
Anyway....the question now becomes.....what bow??? This is where you come in.
He wants a longbow like Dad....but I'm thinking a recurve would be closer to that Genesis bow in shooting form. Would you agree with that?
Now....which bow?? He has a 25 inch draw.....and I would really like him to draw at least around 45 pounds for hunting.
So....do I buy him a 50 pounder.....knowing that at his draw length it will be about 46.5?? Or....do I get him a 45....and have him hunting at around 41.5??
What weight arrows??
Again....I'm looking for suggestions on particular bows.
Any help/insight would be appreciated.
What poundage is he shooting with the Genesis?
