Good for you Charlie, I hope you have a great trip. Best of luck.

Thank you Glen. Commuting for this hunt is far easier than when I was out east. I was wondering where you've been. Hope all is well.

Thank you Wud- probably will take the Big Jim bow. I have been hunting it the last 2 years and it's a bit shorter for blind use.
-
Good for you, Charlie.
Be prepared for long hours in a blind in very hot conditions. Mission brand cooling gear, lots of water, etc.
Hope you get a big one. Post photos when you come back.
-
Not sure where you are going, but I've never hunted them from a blind. I also never sat on windmills over water holes either. What is your approach?
-
I'll be out there again this year during the rut!
-
Used up my 23 point in Colorado for a unit 2, 201 tag in the northwest corner of the state, hope it's as good as last year. My Brother Jim used his 22 points last year for the 1 Non Res tag and killed his best goat to date last year.
-
Oh if only. My last time was in the "grasslands" nearly 20 years ago. Hunted from a blind and it must have been over 90 degrees. What an experience. Shot one the first morning of the first day. :archer2:
-
Drew a wyoming tag for my first ever antelope hunt. Will hunt a few days with recurve then switch to rifle in October. I'm looking forward to the scenery in N.W part of the state.
-
I drew a New Mexico tag…a month away!
-
I've applied to New Mexico half a dozen times and not gotten drawn.
An antelope is on my list to get in the next couple of years though.
-
Luck was on my side this year…I drew the pronghorn and also a mule deer tag.
-
You should have gotten a lottery ticket too!
-
I've hunted them in the grasslands before. This time around I will in a blind in somewhere Wyoming
-
Take a couple books Charlie. The days in that blind get awfully long, and a good read helps make the time pass easier.
Good luck!
Bisch

Last year I had to put Marv Clyncke's book down to shoot my antelope, moved slow and low to get it done. Books do make the days go quicker.
-
Thanks fellas. I'm hearing it's best to get the hide off them asap. What do y'all do? Bringing a cooler with ice every day isn't practical
-
I live about 2 hours of where I’m going to hunt. Season opens up in 3 weeks…we are scheduled to have over 10 days straight of 100 degree weather… so yes, skin it…quarter i…and cool it as quick as you can!
-
1st of all Congrats Charlie!!!
Best of luck and have a blast.

So did I my 1st time applying. I decided to totaly focus on antelope and if a dandy muley just happed by I take him instead.
I didn't do any blind hunting, it was all spot and stalk and some 'set up's around bushes and such. I can't tell you how many stalks I got, and how many were so close to being successful, but I ended up killing mine sitting on a 3 legged stool in knee high sage the last 30 minutes of the last day.
-
I found out a long time ago that I needed a small freezer for antelope hunting. The last antelope I shot it was 92 degrees at 10:30 am (when I shot him) and by 3:30 pm I had cut up, vacuum sealed and in the freezer. I used ice for a couple but a freezer is the way to go.

That's pretty awesome Terry.
It's no big surprise I drew, incredibly high odds area. I was invited as a guest with a group. Honestly didn't think I could get time off work but thanks to 2 good bosses and my supportive lovely wife, its suddenly a go.
Unfortunately I will not likely be doing spot and stalk due to the size of the ranch, # of hunters and available water. If however everyone is tagged out, I will go have fun. Seems with the lopes, I can usually get within 80, often within 60 and ocassionally within 50, but I struggle getting any closer

Yeah, and what's crazy is I could have shot one the 1st thirty minutes of the 1st day.
I saw them grazing in a direction toward some willows and I did an end around and set up slightly behind 2 willows with a nice window to shoot through. I had everything ready, the buck was in the window at 18 yards, bow up and ready to draw but the wind was just to unpredictable. It was steady then would gust over and over. There was no timing at all between the gusts, so I lowered my bow very slowly and just enjoyed the show.
Kinda glad it all worked out the way it did, I have so many stories of all those stalks and ambush set ups from the 5 days after.

I'm guilty of passing animals to extend a hunt but due to some family health issues, I hope to kill mine right away as well as my car pool partner to hopefully save vacation for deer season.
-
Best of Luck, Charlie.

I can't wait for the season to start, antelope/mule deer open before everything else and it breaks the summer doldrums around here and the summers are always slow. Vacations, T-ball/little league, cheer camps, twirl a whirl, trout season/bass fishing etc.
I can't wait to hear your story Charlie. I can't come soon enough. :campfire:
-
Thanks Fellas.

Back from the hunt. Lots of animals. Missed a stud on day 1. Over his back at 18. Weather changed and the rext of the week was a bust.
-
I hope you enjoyed your hunt regardless Charlie. At least you went. Have a safe and successful deer season.
-
It’s all good if you had fun!! :notworthy: :campfire: :coffee:

Thank you Ron. I'd do the trip again in a heart beat. Saw a lot. Probably 60 + daily. Bucks started rutting after the 2 inches of rain. Wished I had a decoy that last day.

Adventures and memories. Fuel the fire for next time!!!
