One afternoon we were taken out to our stands in a pick up a little bit later than normal, and i was in a hurry to get my stuff out of the truck. I had a ground blind i had to build before the evening hunt, and i was hustling..... What i didn't realize until the truck had left, was that my bow was still in the truck.....
Well this is not how i had planned to spend my evening just watching and not hunting, so i opened up my pack to see what i had to work with. I always carried an assortment of goodies in my day pack to include several sharp knives , zip ties, and a very sharp pruning saw. So i thought to myself, I better get creative here quickly because those pigs are going to come to that feeder at sun down.
So first i set up some netting down wind of the feeder a little closer than i originally planned. Without a bow, i'm talking 10 yards or less for what i had in mind. Then i started scrounging in the brush to find a staff i could use as a spear handle..... Trying to find a somewhat straight spear shaft in that neck of the desert country in short order was a pretty hard to do, but i came up with a good stout piece that would work, and rolled up my sleeves.
It took me about 15 minutes to put together a lethal weapon that would do the job nicely. I had no idea how far i could throw this thing accurately, but it was balanced fairly well in the hand. My only hope was a very close encounter, But i was back in the game!
I set up a video camera, and settled in to wait for that magic twilight hour before dark when the critters start moving thinking this could be a wild adventure..... About 15 minutes into my wait i noticed the truck coming back. The guys had noticed i left the bow in the truck and were bringing it back to me.
So now i had two weapons in my blind, but as luck would have it the pigs didn't roll in until after dark that evening, and i wasn't set up for night hunting...
I thought i'd share this story with you folks for entertainment purpose.... With archery hunting if there is a will, there is a way. Kirk

Funny thing was…. I got busted more by those sneaky hens creeping in on me from behind while I was focusing on getting my bow to full draw on the Toms.
I had two toms fighting in front of me at 7 yards once, and never got a shot…. Unbelievable really…. But it sure was fun…. :biglaugh: Kirk

For night hunting you are can use a light, but you are not permitted to hunt from any motor vehicle, even an ATV. All applicable laws regarding the use of a flashlight and weapon apply.
The use of a light gathering ("starlight") scope on any of the firearms mentioned below is permissible when hunting without a light and night vision binoculars (Found it here (https://theoptics.org/best-night-vision-binoculars/))
You have the option of using a pistol, bow, or crossbow.
You can use a shotgun that has been loaded with shot (any size).
