First day is in the books. The adventure is in full swing and lots of good stories were told at the dinner table last night. We’re still waiting for the first bear on the meat pole. Stay tuned.

Good luck and enjoy the place and the companionship. For that is a place I would visit sometime

Day 2 of camp has come and gone. Yesterday’s weather (cool and raining) slowed the bear movement down. Mark Livingston had a big boar at eight yards that just sensed something wasn’t right and never gave Mark a shot opportunity. We’re up and getting ready for day three. The rain is supposed to break just in time for our afternoon hunt.

GOOD LUCK, Guys!!!! :coffee:

Make ‘em bleed!

I need to note there are two Stickflinger camps, about 30 miles apart. Mine is the original camp, for tough, he-man types. The other is for ladies and gentlemen who need pampering. Slow, cold and raining everyday here. Two bears wounded with apparent non-fatal hits. One barrel with a VPA hole. Tonight is the night! Should mention that with heavy spring snow runnoff and a big rain last week 50% of our baits are not accessible. Bridges and roads are washed out.
-
Fun and games, hunt the baits you can get too. I figured you would hunt the tough camp!!!
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :biglaugh:
-
Just so everyone knows. We’re really roughing it over here. There aren’t any mints on the pillows over here. We do have the real problem of steaks that are too big to eat and a shortage of the quickly gobbled up home made cookies.
-
Day 3. Here we go!
-
:coffee: :campfire:
-
Four bears down at camp rough and tough. One a monster which should exceed 7'. Others are just big (6'8" and 6'5") Another hard hit with recovery expected shortly. Snowing now in beautiful Manitoba.
-
One bear is down in our camp. He is a monster. 7’4” squared at 360 pounds.

Slew Foot alluded our group’s meat pole this spring. Stickflingers is as advertised. The guides are all extremely knowledgeable, the bears are numerous, and many are very large. Everyone in our group had shot opportunities at large bears, some of them color phase bears. The amenities at the new camp were fantastic and the hosts were out of this world. Kudos to Ryan Derlago, both Mikes (our guides), and our lodging hosts Sherri and Gordan. Our group can’t wait to get back up there on another hunt.
-
I'm sure you had a great time otherwise. :campfire:
-
We had a blast!!!
-
Great James. I had a little something planned for you guys but Ryan wouldn't ever call me back. Pretty disappointing.
-
I appreciate the thought.
-
2 more weeks before I go. Can't wait
-
I am driving up from Wichita, Ks. Leaving Friday morning around 5a.m. It will be fun to get back up there! Looking forward to another week of good people and lots of bears!
-
Hey Mike, are you headed to the tent camp or the B&B? My nephew, a buddy of mine and I will be at the tent camp next week, although I guess it isn’t tents anymore. We are leaving Friday also from Michigan.
It is probably a good thing Tim and I aren’t in camp together. We have swapped enough bows over the years that it could be more expensive than the whole trip!

Sure thing James, just bummed that a man can't return a phone call after repeated attempts. Checked me off my bucket list.
-
The work days there are very long for Ryan and the guides — easily over 16 hours. The phone service out in the bush is zero. Be patient with Ryan. He will get back to you.
-
Dave,
I am going to the tent camp also. Will be in Swan Lake Saturday afternoon if you are staying there. I am going to stay at the New Country Inn and head out to Birch River at 11:00. That way I can be all cleaned up and ready to head out when I arrive.
-
Hey Mike,
We have a room in Dauphin for Saturday. We will have to take off a bit earlier than you will.
I believe Brian Lance's group is staying in Dauphin also.
Look forward to meeting everyone.

I can really relate to the frustration of not having a phone called returned. In my professional life, if I didn't get the courtesy of a return phone call....It might be a lot harder for that individual to find me when they needed help. I hated playing the game, but I couldn't waste time chasing folks down that didn't want to call back. We eventually would always find a good working relationship.
I was up at Stickflingers that week with smokin joe and I can attest to the work hours of the guides. One night, they didn't get in until 4:30am and was back at it running baits a couple of hours later. I told my guide that he looked 'like warmed over death'. Cell service didn't exist in the field.
All that said, I'm pretty sure Ryan will get back with you Terry.

To agree with my fellow camp mates on this hunt, our guides could not have worked harder or been more accommodating. Mike and Mike had to deal with Biblical Rains washing out access roads and pre-set bait sites.
They did a great job of getting us to the stands, which we very well placed for a short range bow shot. The guides would move stands if you asked or create ground blinds. Mike, the shorter, told me what direction the bear would come from and the stand was placed perfectly for the shot; however, my shot was not perfect, not a killing shot, so there is a big boar still hanging around there.
Outstanding experience with our guides and our Bed-N- Breakfast hosts, Gord and Shelley.

I am at the tent camp and took a 6’8” boar last night. Great hunt. Short for me this year. Now I hope my buddies have some success.
