Title: Who uses this for a wood arrow finish?
Post by: Tedd on April 29, 2022, 07:37:05 PM
I picked this up when I was buying cresting paint. So far it works great. I don't know about feather glue or durability? My experiments so far shows that it doesn't make cresting run, it doesn't dull white caps. Also I stuck it in the 3D target by hand a few times and it didn't seem to stick.
Anyone use this stuff? Something must be wrong with it because it is really easy to use.

I have used the Minwax version!  Same product I’m sure,  spray poly.  I stained,  brush poly several coats with steel wool in between,  they finished with a light cover of the spray poly.  It works very well.  Makes a very resilient finish. Might not be the best pic here but these are Surewood’s done with poly.  They look wet but are probably 10 years old at least.  They slide silently over the rest material like glass.  Might be shiny for the woods though

I never notice the min wax version saying "exterior". Though it looks like yours holds up just fine.

You’re right on that, I never noticed anywhere on the can it specified exterior either.   And I also noticed your krylon stuff says 15 min dry time.  Think the minwax is way longer.
There are only 11 of those wood arrows in that case because I lost one in the weeds and didn’t find it til over a year later.  I remember the point being rusted badly,  fletch rotted off and it was snapped probably from mowing over it with the tractor,  but the finish being surprisingly intact where the shaft wasn’t broken.

I picked up a can to try on some old carbons that I had lying around. I’m pretty pleased with how easy it was to apply and how fast it dried compared to wipe on poly.

So I’ve been shooting some arrows I finished with Krylon for about a month now. I’m pretty pleased with the results. I haven’t experienced any discoloration or target burn.
