Yes, the goal is make ALL the bubbles walk when you press the clamps one by one.
Not Very easy at the first time, but with pratice the lams ends perfect.
Inclusive with roving and clear Glass.

So can you sand that and use it under veneer.

I did it pretty similar.
Unsed two thick plywood Boards and silicone mat for anti Stick.
I did Cut the lams in the taple saw for perfect straightness.

Yes. I usually do that only with only unidiretional carbon. But can be made in that way as well.

I didn't show in the video, but when you press the two pieces of glass together you can measure the distance of then with a caliper. this avoid you press more one side than other manteining the same thickness.

It appears that the epoxy saturated well but seems maybe smearing all sides might be better. Never work with the sheets so I don't know.

Thats exactly right Stic, you are only going to get so much saturation with a wet layup, when not wetting out each layer individually.
Plus the fiber/resin volume fraction is going to be at the lowest end of the scale in an open layup. There is going to be a lot of surface finishing going on here, considering all the visible surface voids.

What is the glue you use? To my eye it didn't seem to be enough glue....but then, there is the result.
It looked like two different type of mat. Was there a difference in the mats? Is that the hexcel product?

It was epoxy resin.
I tried to find the best one that I know here in Brazil, but the problem of them is that he is not 100% clear.
The two mats was unidirectional carbon cloth and bi-directional carbon cloth.

I am making the epoxy lams as the same way but with fiberglass fabric and instead of glass, I use aluminium plate.

I’m curious what temperature you cured this carbon lay up at, how long you cooked it, and what heat source was used?

It was Cured at 75º C, then let cooked to 8h and let cool down.
After 24h I made a pos-cure in 85ºC for more 4 hours.
The heat that I'm using is 4 of those ones:

they can mantein the heat up than 100º C, so you need a thermostat to regulate it.

I was watching your lay up closely and noticed that you laid the top piece of 45/45 carbon weave on top of the glass with the bond breaker already spread, then placed it on top of the other two layers of twill carbon without flipping it over.... Are you not concerned with contamination?
What are you using for a bond breaker on the glass? and what type of epoxy are you using for the carbon?
I've played with a lot of carbon over the years, and found that a thin kerf carbide tipped saw blade works excellent in a table saw for ripping those carbon sheets. I use these for carbon and glass with a backer board.

Never got problem with this. I just use regular demolding wax, and clean every part of glass when it dry.
The best epoxy I found here in Brazil to do it is Epoxy HEX 135 Slow (German Lloyd).
Tryed some others but didn`t work well. :knothead:
