I was fortunate to meet him and shoot a couple of his bows a few years ago in Kalamazoo, wish I had spent more time with him.  Hope to come across one of his river runners someday.

The only custom made bow I own was made by Chad.  It has accounted for some nice deer.
Such a great guy who went above and beyond in my dealings with him!

Sadly, never met the man or shot his bows.  I am poorer for it.

He's one of the nicest most remarkably men I've ever met.   I had the pleasure to get to know him and his family, but just a little, I got to know him much just a few years ago.   I think of him often,  and his bow is one that I will shoot often and never sell

Hi guys,

I am Shane Holm, Chad's identical twin brother.  I haven't been on TG for a long time but just logged on and saw this thread at the top.  As you can imagine I miss him immensely.  He truly was one of the best men I have ever known. One of the few people I have know who cared more about others than himself. I appreciate reading your kind words and want to give a brief update.

Chad's daughter Madison graduated with a bachelor's degree from Minnesota State in December and is currently working on a masters degree.  Chad's son is a senior in High School who was a standout football player this past fall and is currently practicing for the upcoming Lacrosse season.  He is currently planning on going to a trade school and enrolling in the national guard.  Both of his kids are very hard working and dedicated young adults.  Chad's wife Amy has been back to teaching school and has had a tough time but is doing better every day.

Chad was a lot of things to a lot of people.  His faith and love of his family were his number one priority, but after that he was extremely passionate about making bows and his traditional archery community. He absolutely loved his business and the folks he met over the years.  He always wanted to retire early from teaching to build bows full time and spend more time in the woods with his friends, but it never quite worked out.

Over the last year and a half Amy and I have talked about selling his bow business but she hasn't been ready. This past week she mentioned that she is ready to consider moving the equipment and supplies to someone who would use them.  Chad's bow shop has been left basically as it was when he made his last bow (which was for me).  If anyone is interested or know some one who is please reach out to me.  Chad would love to know his forms and equipment was being used to create new bows.

I plan to not be such a stranger around here, take care,

Shane

I would love to see his line of bows continue. He made 2 for me and I thought he was a super talented bowyer and one of the best people in the archery community I had ever done business with. I was just thinking of him a couple days ago when I ran across a backpack he gave me. Good on everyone here for keeping his memory alive. We all miss him deeply.

I bought one of the newer versions of t-shirts  as soon as they were announced, to go with my older Holm-made ones.
Chad replied back - he remembered  me from when I asked him some questions about a used Osprey I bought years earlier.

Think of him often for that.

I met Chad at the first Kzoo show I attended as a fellow vendor. He was such a friendly person that I made sure to look him up at each show I attended thereafter. About 6 months ago, I reached out to him to record a podcast on building bows to inspire future bowyers. I could have called any number of other bowyers, but I knew his easy going nature and his background as a teacher would make a great pairing. I'm so glad that I did, I would have forever kicked myself had I called someone else. It has been great to be able to listen back to it.

always wanted to try one of his River Runners. sad that I probably never will get to. I know he was extremely well-respected and a heck of a bowyer.

I own 4 of Chad's bows.  Three River Runner recurves and a Goshawk longbow.  As I look at and handle each bow, I can imagine the expert hand and eye of Chad as he completed each bow building step.  What a craftsman!

I shot a forkie with one of Chad"s Osprey longbows last fall. I met him at an annual 3d shoot in Horicon,Wi.about 5 years ago. I am sometimes a bit uncomfortable talking to people that i meet for the first time. Not with Chad. It was like i had known him my whole life. Easy going and just a great guy. I miss him also and hope his line of bows continues!

Chad was a great guy. He came down and hunted pigs with me and Irv several times.
We talked a lot about the teaching profession and of course, trad archery and hunting.
Such a huge loss to our community of like minded folks.
