Here in New York, The season opened May 1, and I was in my Double Bull blind awaiting first light... at 5:15, I heard a few gobbles coming from down the valley...I did a few soft calls, and had immediate responses...The gobbles were getting nearer and nearer, approaching from my left...I peered thru the viewing window, and 5 jakes approached the decoys, unaware of my black form inside the darkened blind. I picked the second bird in line as they milled around the decoys. My Schafer Silvertip was up, and ready to do business. The CE 150 Heritage tipped with a 160 Snuffer, was gone in a flash..the hit was perfect, mid-wing...The Jake half flew, half ran for a short distance, and I collected my beautiful opening day bird..

Being a die hard turkey hunter, I cant wait to enjoy the spring woods...I have a favorite place in the mountains that I love to head to every spring in search of a longbeard with a bow...I made the trip in the pre-dawn darkness and found the old familiar meadow, as I have many times in the past. It rained hard all evening, and as I headed across the meadow on the second day of the season, I had the feeling that today was going to be the day, again...I set the Double Bull blind up along the old fence, and set the decoys...I sat back in the dark blind and waited for the songs of spring to engulf my ears....A few soft tree yelps, brought no response..I waited a little longer and let out a few yelps...I glanced over at my Silvertip, and made sure she was ready..Suddenly, I hear a distant gobble! He is coming from an unfamiliar roost off to my left...I purr ever so slightly...he answers again! I ready my bow as I did yesterday..this morning I am shooting the same CE arrows, this time with a WW head...Suddenly I hear PPFFTTT VROOOM! he is drumming right outside of the blind to my left, as I peer out of the window, he is in full strut, approaching my lonely hen decoy...I wait for the shot to present itself, and it does. He gets 10 yards outside of the blind and is in full strut broadside....I pick that familiar spot, and the arrow finds the exact spot I was looking at! The Silvertip has done its job again! I flip the blind, and watch my bird as he tries to gain altitude, but he runs out of steam, and crashes in the old meadow below! I approach my bird with the satisfaction of taking my second bird of the season, a day apart, with my Schafer Silvertip recurve! What a morning! He had a 9" beard and inch long spurs...Turkey hunting with a bow...there is nothing on earth like it! Thanks for all of the compliments everybody. Any one can hunt birds with a bow, its getting em to sit still long enough for the shot, thats the hard part!

Larry, Pat, Curt, Serg, everyone, Thanks for the compliments! Its addictive for sure!
Hey way to go!! My silvetip came close 2 saturdays ago, but.... haha
ps. I found out another advantage to hunting turkeys in the spring from a blind, especially when using the shoot through mesh: it keeps the annoying bugs away! :biglaugh:
Hey Congrats on the birds and nice looking bow too
I am jealous!! Here in Indiana we are only allowed one bird and I was done the first day I hunted.
Went out this AM....just to look around and saw strutting turkeys and heard gobbling and I can't do a thing about it!!!
Hopefully....Indiana will "loosen" up some in the future.
Congrats
