Title: Crossover glove insert removal
Post by: pdk25 on March 25, 2022, 09:46:56 AM
Has anyone ever removed the plastic insert from the American Leathers Crossover glove?  I just don't like the stiff feel of the plastic piece. If you have, how did you go about it?  Thanks in advance.

Pat;
I was thinking that three layers of leather might be more agreeable for me, probably would talk to AL about it.  Maybe a layer of buffalo under the kangaroo.

I have had the same thoughts as I don’t need as much finger protection using 40#-45# bows. I thought by cutting the stitching on one side may do the trick. But I would want a needle and thread the same as the original stitching.

I sent them a message.  I will just get a new one like that if it is still an option.

Pat, I just recieved my glove I ordered without inserts today.  I think I'm going to like it, it also came with a small jar of montana pitch to help condition the leather, I put some on and let it set for a while, I'm getting ready to go try it out.  If you haven't heard anything from your email give them a call, like I said before great people to deal with.

Spoke to them today. Going to place an order now.  Getting neoprene in place of the plastic tab.

I got a reply back that confirmed a layer of Buffalo between the Kangaroo skin would be a good choice, for my needs.  Plan to place order for modified Kangaroo Crossover and arm guard, early next week.  That should set me up with finger protection for life.

Got my buffalo crossover with neoprene instead of plastic.  I like that alot better.  I may try a kangaroo with either buffalo or neoprene next.

I have found out the best glove is the glove you build yourself.
There will never be a fit issue sewing it right on your own hand.
Once you developed your pattern, you can always make a glove exactly like your old one and don't need to fuss about that they discontinued your glove model.

I don't have the wherewithal to make my own glove, that's why I procure American Leathers to make mine..... have been for over 20 years.... got enough to last me another 20...

I think I will send my one glove back and have them remove the inserts. I have another older Elk leather glove that needs new straps and Velcro on the finger tips. May not get a leather match but that’s OK. Three gloves should last me forever

Dropped the hammer on modified Kangaroo Crossover with layer of Buffalo leather instead of plastic.  Also, picked up Buffalo Hill style arm guard.  I need/want them both, we'll see how they roll.  Lori was pleasant to talk to and deal with.  Tests results will be posted.

Modified Kangaroo Crossover arrived, feels and looks great.  Buffalo arm guard looks great.  Got two leather coasters as a bonus.  Look forward to shooting this glove in.

Finally, got a chance to throw some arrows with my custom Kangaroo Crossover.  It arrived in about a week and a half, by the way!  After about forty arrows, my four arrow groups looked much the same.  Arrow #2 was usually a bit out, as first one is on the money and I get lazy, then buckle down to finish out.  Had one group with the #2 high right cause I lifted my head.  Being a tab guy, the glove is started to blend in.  I can see why there is such a following of AL gloves.  There is still the feel of the string that I like/need, and the glove is not that bulky.  All in all, I'll give it a 9.5 just because it is not a nylon faced tab!!!  The modified Kangaroo Crossover will be in my back pocket, or haversack from here on out.  I can only see the glove getting better, as it breaks in more.  Pic is sideways, down is left.

Following up on a thread about consistency on the other site, I took 7 arrows, 2219 and 2315 with 3 and 4 fletch, 160 and 190 grain tips for a test run with the modified Kangaroo Crossover glove.  @7+ dozen arrows, shot until I couldn't.  Each cluster the first arrow was on the money.  Then draw, anchor, release in rapid fire mode while trying to keep form good.  All clusters were @5" at 15+ yards and the glove performed very well.  Release is getting smoother with each dozen arrows.  Give the glove good marks for fit, feel and release.  Think I may be turning into an AL fan.

When I shot a glove, the crossover was my go to.. I bet there are still 5 of those lying around the house here somewhere!
The only issue with removing or buying one of their gloves without the plastic inserts is that the finger stalls will develop the crease quicker.. this will deter the smooth release a bit.
They make a great glove, and if no plastic inserts works for you, have at it.

I keep the fingers pretty slick with wax or coconut oil, so they release well.  Also, without the plastic piece I think getting better feel.

Hi Folks - American Leathers here...in about six weeks, we'll be offering the Buffalo Crossover and Kangaroo Krossover gloves with the option of either plastic inserts or buffalo leather inserts on the finger stalls.  Watch the website for new changes.  Thanks for all the input!  John & Lori Turner  American Leathers

I got my two gloves back from American Leathers the other day. I had the plastic inserts removed from the one and had the Buffalo leather put in. Going to give it a workout tomorrow I gave the Elk glove a small workout this AM. Works great. Think I am set for ever

I won't be long and it'll be time for me to replace my Big Shot.  Do you guys find the gloves with just leather fingers are better than the ones with nylon?

Tough question. I used both this AM. Maybe some durability between the two but as for shooting (release) I don’t see that much difference if any.

Really am enjoying the leather feel of the Kangaroo Crossover with Buffalo leather mid layer.  But like the Elk Big Shot as well.

I can see many years ahead of both the modified Kangaroo Crossover and Elk Big Shot.  Probably will never have to purchase another glove, superior product, for sure.

The crossover is my go to glove.  Really like it.  My only wish is if it had a single snap strap instead of the overlapping velcro.  The velcro gets gummed up with link and junk, it opens sometimes when I don't want it to, and it makes noise in the woods when I do remove it.   :coffee:
