Just for fun, which bow would you call as your Hall of Fame bow, you only get one vote, it doesn't need to be one you own or have owned but one that you have at least shot. For me it's the Dryad BushWacker. I just can't miss with it, it's ridiculous.
-
If I was forced to pick just “one"……….. bear takedown.
-
Black Widow PMA or PSR
Lucky to have killed a bunch of big deer with these.
Got on a streak for a few years in there with Morrison TDs also
-
Yew Northern Mist Shelton. 68" long and pulling 53# at 28" draw.
-
Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet
-
Bear T/D signed by Fred, Frank, and Charlie...tippit

Kelly beat me to it. There's just bows, then there's the Gamemaster Jet. If they were takedowns I wouldn't own anything else.

It was a Tall Times recurve that I shot my P&Y bear, but I bought a Tall Times Stickflinger after that and I shoot that better.
-
That’s easy, Frank SanMarco Traditional ASL no question.
-
Bear Takedown
-
Black widow PSA. Tough as heck, just keeps killing
-
It would have to be my MOAB 60", 62#@27" bow is smooth, fast and forgiving. Throws an 11-12 GPI arrow very well. Got my first turkey with this bow, killed more than a truckload of hogs. Semi-retired in favor of heavier pull bows, but as the years go by she is looking better!!! Big River D/R 21st Century clone is a very close second.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:
-
I took an awful lot of game with a 68" 64#@28" 21st Century Nova. Won some stuff with it too. It broke about ten years ago and I sure miss it.
-
Easily the PSA Black Widow.....lots of years using this model and has represented taking at least 85% of all my game taken over my lifetime.
-
My factory camo 1984 Bear Kodiak Takedown (60#@28"). I absolutely love this bow. :archer:
-
66” Jeff Massie 2 piece takedown Longhorn longbow, 57# at 28". Unfortunately, its more weight than I can handle these days.
-
Have many that would qualify if it wasn't for the shooter.
-
Dan Toelke Montana Bow Company Lynx 3 piece takedown longbow..62 inches long and 49 @ 27. I've owned a bunch of bows (and still do), but this one has been my "goto" for the last 10 years or so. I call it my Magic Bow.
-
Snakebit by Blacktail.
-
My bear takedown I bought new in 1971. She has put quite a few deer down..

I really like your signature line David. Its very much the same with my wife of 40 years. Kirk
-
1962 Bear Kodiak 45#. This is the bow that kills them.
-
#s 1 & 2.
When I get older I'll make sure #3 gets inducted.
All are 2004 model Thunderstick MOABs.
-
Sweet triplets.

-
For me its the 1968 (or any year close) Bear Tamerlane HC300, 68” with #40 @ 28”. Not exactly a bowhunters ideal rig, but it was as good at 20 yards as my compound ever was. And it got a few grouse and rabbits in its days too!
-
WOW! Am I the first one to mention SCHAFER SILVERTIP after 26 posts?!?
-
Pigger

I don't hunt with it often. But, to me, it's in a league all by itself. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Not sure of the exact year but a Bear Grizzly with nice timber from the 60's that I still own. I shot my first deer with it. A muley doe.

Black Widow 54”KB 53lbs @28” …. :goldtooth:

The Sasquatch special Kirk Lavender @ BigFoot bows made for me
You just can’t shoot bad with it.

Another one of my favorites. My 55#@28" 1972 factory camo Bear Super Kodiak. :archer:
-
Stagetek that's a dandy. Every time I see one I ask myself why I didn't buy one when I had the chance... Thought about it many times never pulled the trigger on one.
KAZ I thought you would sing the praises of the HS. That KB must be something.... :biglaugh:

Beeman - the decision was a tough one considering the age old beauty 1987 HS60 friend… The HS60 truly “deserves” Hall of Fame status in every sense of the word… That being said, if there’s one bow that I’m left with to get it done it is the 54”KB :goldtooth:
Thank you for bringing her back to the spotlight she deserves :campfire:

Have to be 60” MOAB for me. I have 2, but the #53@28” and I have made many memories together.
-
Black Widow PLX 64” - Tulipwood- 56@28”
-
Had a chance to buy a Black Widow crown jewel, shot it many times just felt like it was made for me. Didn't have funds at the time and it sold. Regret not getting it to this day lol
-
This would be my 3rd inductee, "Tines".
I designed this bow around the color scheme over the many shades of antlers we chase. 1st 2 kills were 10 pointers.... she's went on to kill more deer and over and bunches of hogs.
Again MOAB, 60 " 64@28 - Tamo Ash veneers.
-
Papadeerhtr this ones for you. They are sweet. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

My first love, Damon Howatt Hunter 1964/65, 62" 65#@28". Hunted with me for 20 years, then when I got my Big River recurve with similar specs, "I didn't need two bows the same weight." Silly boy. Killed a hand full of whitetails with that bow. She went to ID and I hope she is well.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:

My Hall of Fame bow probably isn’t the best now I ever built but always seems to speak to me when it’s time to hunt Whitetails in Wisconsin. It’s an Osage Orange board bow backed with hickory and a rattlesnake skin. I carved out some walnut for nock tips and added a little reflex/deflection for performance. It pulls 47# @ 27”. Mike Yancey brought all the components to me at the Kalamazoo archery show a few years ago. The one item that gives it mojo for me is the hen turkey beard I added for good luck. My "just one" would be like a few others here a Bear T/D, I've had at least one since 1970.

Not my all time favorite, but I don’t think there could be any other 1 bow for a hall of fame other than the Bear Take Down
-
Here is a rare one ( the finish anyway ). It's my 1996 Bear Kodiak Takedown in traditional camo according to Bear Archery. When I would go to 3D shoots or ETAR someone would always offer to buy it. After numerous offers I wondered why there was so much interest since it was just a Bear Kodiak Takedown. I called Bear Archery and ask the employee who answered the phone. He said he didn't know but he would transfer my call to someone who would. He transferred my call to Frank Scott. Frank Scott told me less than twenty-five 1996 Bear Kodiak Takedowns where made in the traditional camo finish then Bear Archery decided to stop offering it in the traditional camo. :dunno:
I got this bow at a 3D shoot at a club called Powder Monkey near Leechburg, Pa. back around 1998. At the time I was shooting a Schafer Silvertip and I shot half of the 3D course and decided to check out the vendors. I was always a Bear Archery fan so I was checking out one of the vendors who had some Bear bows on his table. The guy ask me if I wanted to sell my Schafer Silvertip. I told him no but I wouldn't mind trading it for the 1996 Bear Kodiak Takedown he had on his table. He said he would and he also gave me a dozen arrows that were the correct spine for the bow. I shot the first half of the 3D course with the Schafer Silvertip and the second half with the Bear Kodiak Takedown. "LOL" :archer2:
-
Soooo many great bows out there, but I think the Grizzly or Super K are probably the most known.
I'm a fan of the Grizz.
-
I quit buying bows when I got my 2-piece Sierra.
-
Ah, Super Shrew for sure. Just an extension of my arm. Great post BTW.
-
Beeman, that is a beauty! Not sure why Widow doesn't produce those again!! Thanks for posting that!
-
A lot of fantastic bows out there but I'm going to toss in my 55# early 90's Howatt Hunter.
It was my "first". I started bowhunting with a compound but was drawn away from the wheels and cables from the start. After dabbling aimlessly with a couple of cheap locally available "traditional" bows the Hunter was the one I stuck with.
I briefly owned a 65# hunter but let a friend talk me out of it when he took up archery.
-
Early Morrison Dakota not sure the year. Then later an Acadian Woods longbow that was lights out on deer. Both of those were deer killers. If only I could have that kind of accuracy again! Not sure why I moved on from those. I could have saved a lot of money! I think you start looking at pictures and just get the idea that you need a new bow. Next thing you know it's ordered and you spend all summer getting used to the new one.
Sticking with that modern longbow design the JK Kanati has been pretty much the same. I get my longbows made with with a grip that allows a high wrist. (lower the thumb groove).
The one I would want back is the Morrison. I only have 3 photos of the Morrison and none of the Acadian on this hard drive. But these Kanatis are stacking up some deer just the same.

Sorry I got a Widow in those photos. I was all in on those Widow Takedowns once but in the end I couldn't ever like the looks. But Now I have a PTF once pc without the horns and it shoot great with better looks.

You dont see too many of those ultra fancy Bighorns.I remember looking at them many years ago.Nice overall package of bighorns.I can see why thier in your Hall of Fame.
-
Would have to say that my Dryad Orion 60"...52@28 is my Hall of Famer as it was used to harvest a nice red stag and was retired.
-
I really like the looks and performance of my Little Mountain 62" recurve. 48@27.
-
Would have to be my Trails End. But just curious, wasn't that a man by the name of Jerry Pierce who built a few bows. Never hear from anyone
who has one and I have NEVER seen one up for sale. Those were treasurers.
-
I have a Pierce bow Jerry donated to the Kansas Bowhunters Association for our 25th , next year will be our 50th. It is 58" 56# with osage limbs , Marv Clyncke told me Jerry only made 2 with osage limbs and he has the other one. They are for sure a bow that should be Hall of Fame.
-
Someone should post a picture of the the Pierce bow with osage limbs. hint hint.. :biglaugh:
-
Bryan, lol maybe he hain't gots a camera?

-
could text pics to some one to post,

Here is the Pierce bow of Daniel's. What a work of ART! No less than 7 different woods. WOW [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

one more [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
-
Not a Pierce but one of Brandon Stahl’s Ultra D’s which to my eye bears a similarity to the Pierce.
-
Gorgeous!!!
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:
-
Fred thats a great looking bow! I remember Brandon was really interested in the Pierce bows, and I always wanted to get one of Brandon's recurves or at least a set of his limbs for my Bear take downs
but never got around to it , the bows he made were top shelf.
-
Todd, those pictures of your Bighorns are great, I need to do better pictures of the Pierce bow that do it Justice, and maybe some of my Bighorns. Or my Robertson Recurve with Pierce points. All are Hall of Fame bows from back in the day.
-
Thanks Daniel. You can definitely see the influence Jerry’s bows had on Brandon’s bows.
-
No doubt it's my Widow PSA. If you told me this was the only bow I could hunt with for the rest of my life, my feelings wouldn't be hurt.

The work horse and most versatile of take downs. Bear mag TD.
Stagetek (Mike) That's a beauty riser!
-
Man I hate these scenarios!!!!! Lol. BUT IF FORCED to pick I’d say the Northern Mist Superior.
-
gotta agree with the guys on the Widow PSA, Ive killed a a bunch of stuff with em, and can’t imagine a better hunting bow.
They are great shooters and bulletproof. I’ve shot them almost exclusively since 2004 I will stray now and then with my PLX longbow, but the PSA is almost like cheating, it’s that good.
-
I have to chose a recurve and a longbow because they are just different and I can't chose just one bow.
Recurve--> TimberGhost G3SS
Longbow--> Black Canyon 3 Piece
-
A couple of years ago, I would have told you unequivocally my JD Berry Vixen, a smooth and powerful ASL.
Last year a friend put a Brandon Stahl Primal Instinct in my hands and it became my hunting partner.
I am not a collector and only keep a couple of hunting bows on hand.
Fast forward to this year and the same friend let me shoot one of his Blacktail Elite VLs... Now I have one of my own and it is going to find another bow to surpass this one.
-
Here ya go. 58" 60@28 Whistler.
-
Either of my Primal tech takedown longbows.
-
Shafer Silvertip
-
I love my Cari-bow Featherhorn. Naturally pointing, just feels great in the hand.
-
Lot's of great bows. Tedd's post about his choice got me craving a Kanati longbow. I was lucky to get my hands on one and I'm sure glad I did. It is built perfectly for my needs as a bowhunter. Short longbow, made for one purpose. It's not an eye catcher and not a 3D champion, but it is a rugged bow with great performance from a small package.
-
My A-#1 Bear T/D
56" 42#@28"
-
Black widow PSA 50@28, only owned it a year but looking forward to another 20+

My brand new Toelke 58" whistler, it shoots for me like auto pilot
Have you killed anything with it? Hall of Fame seems like not a 'wanna be' but an 'I am' kinda award. I mean geeesss, I've had 2 dozen bows that 'shoot where I look', but that didn't put them is some kind of a class all by themselves.
-
#s 1 & 2.
When I get older I'll make sure #3 gets inducted.
All are 2004 model Thunderstick MOABs.
I have been following for years, and I remember GA, FL, SC, and TX these bows have been on. Might even be one way out west but I can't recall. Its been fun following them all these years. I hope they aren't parked yet.
-
Wish I had gotten in on the Anniversary editions.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:

Honestly, I would love to owen every bow Jim made

I'd be happy with one more MOAB! Had a TS III that was stolen from my truck.

My favorite is a 62" Morrison Shawnee longbow with carbon foam limbs. This is a real shooter and dead quiet.
-
Nearly gave the nod to the Widow PLX, nearly the St Patrick’s Lake Pacific but the Poison Dart gets the nod
-
My favorite is a 62" Morrison Shawnee longbow with carbon foam limbs. This is a real shooter and dead quiet.
Shawnee is a recurve.
-
Nice salad hat Terry.... I've got a couple full suits of that predator camo myself. Works good in the jungles of the Oregon coast. Nice looking speed goat too.... Kirk
-
I had the Shawnee with carbon/foam longbow limbs as well Mike in a 62 inch bow.It was nice!
Hall of Fame bow for me.Probably the Bear Custom Kodiak T.D due its versatility.
Cheers!
-
Ah yes guys, he did make them with longbow limbs, forgot about that. :campfire:
-
I have several HOF bows but to nominate just one, 1956 Kodiak, 60" and 57#. 66 years young and still on the mound on opening morning. Sort of an unfair advantage to have a starting pitcher that throws fastball both left and right handed.
-
Well it's a fact we're all different, but my pick is the Blackwidow PL longbow.
I've only got three bows, and yes they are all Blackwidow PLX longbows. They sit nice in my hand, they shoot where I look, they are smooth and quiet, they are way more than quick enough with the wooden arrows I shoot, and to me, they simply look great.
I have occasionally gotten a slight itch to try something different, but then I think "Hang on, I really shoot very well with the bows I already have, and I really really like them".
So then I'll take one of my Blackwidow longbows out and shoot it, and that slight itch simply goes away :biglaugh:
Just shooting them puts a smile on my face.
I can't ask much more than that.
Best
Lex

Still enjoying this thread. :campfire:

Hoyt Buffalo. Not pretty but highly functional and most of all reliable.
-
Bob sarrels sierra is still my go to bow. Traded through tons of bows but still got this one been shooting it for 11 years
-
For me it's my Brackenbury Drifter. I bought it from Jim in 84. I've had many bows since, but its always been my go to bow. Last year I handed it down to my 32yr old son. I had Wes Wallace build me a couple sets of lighter limbs . My original set was 65lbs to much for these old bones anymore. Now I get to watch my son enjoy it.
-
My 69# Morrison Cougar, made by Bob. Tuff as nails and blast though or knocks over critters. What a fine longbow.
-
Black Widow Diamond Anniversary Crown Jewel #109 Built for Ron LaClair.
-
David, any idea what year that CJ was built?
I'd also love to see more pics.
-
It was built in 1987, I have owned it twice, I bought it from Mike @Rosewood Archery a long time ago, talked to Ron about it and he told me all about it. It was originally marked at 62#@28" but actually scaled a hair over 64# so it was fast. In 2010 I had a cervical vertebra move and pinched or cut nerves that worked my left rear deltoid and right tricep and I couldn't shoot it or any of my other bows. I waited a year like the Dr. said and had it reduced to the 58# that it is now, and I still couldn't shoot it. Six months later I sold it and it started on about a 9-year trip around the country. Not long ago I saw it for sale and bought it again and got it back in the same shape that it left in. It won't be leaving again because I've recovered and have a lefty grandson coming up that should top out about 6'4" or so and he'll be fine with it. He's already shooting 40# at 9 years old.
-
Wow, thanks for the History.... yeah, sounds like your grandson will be able to handle it just fine.
-
That would have to be my diamondback rattle snake skin backed Osage self bow…I have quite a few to choose from. My hickory static tip recurve is pretty cool it started out life as two pick handles. Then there is the bamboo backed Osage and yew laminate bow. The list goes on I think I have 14 in total…all built by my dad Dan Ryan
If I could only shoot one for the rest of my life I guess it’d be the snake skin.
-
Have to agree, I'm leaning on my self bows more and more
-
Robertson 66" Longbow
From the old Mystical to the current Primal Styk....not much has changed.

A 51# Wild Horse Creek Destiny just seems to get it done when an animal is in front of me.
