Hello fellow archers. I'm new to traditional archery(about half a year) and have been completley consumed by the path of the arrow.
I have two recurves (with my first self bow stave on order...) 52 lb and 45 lb, and think of nothing else except shooting in the woods.
I'd like to start my traditional archery book collection.
SO LET'S HEAR IT -- what's your top trad archery books of all time!?
Your top ten trad archery books are:

Bows on the Little Delta is my favorite.
Longbows in the Far North, Longbow Country...Don Thomas, the best writter out there
No trad archery book collection is complete without a copy of the "Witchery of Archery". It is a must have......Terry
These are my favorites: Longbow Country & Longbows in the Far North - by Don Thomas; A Thousand Campfires & Hunting Alaska's Wild Rivers - both by Jay Massey; Fred Bear's Field Notes; Trailing A Bear - by Bob Munger; Ishi in Two Worlds is pretty fascinating too.
I tried but just cannot pick the "best" five.
I really enjoy all of these; but will rate them in order of impact to my trad/primitive archery lifestyle.
Bows&Arrows of the Native Americans- Hamm (this is the book that started it all for me)
The Book of Primitive Archery- Massey
American Indian Archery- Laubin
Instictive Shooting- I & II- Asbell
ISHI- Kroeber
Hunting with the Bow & Arrow- Pope
Bows on the Little Delta- St. Charles
Traditional Archery- Fadala
The Traditional Bowhunter's Handbook- Conrads
Traditional Bowyer's Bible- I,II,III-
Whitetail Tactics with Recurves & Longbows- Hamm
Campfire Reflections- Conrads
There are many more that didn't make my list but of course you wanted five. LOL
These are all great books. The Pope and St. Charles books are a "must have" in any archery library.
John III
Don Thomas' three books, as well as Bill Negley's book. And Chester Stevensen's book (compiled by Nick Nott). And Jim Hamm's book about a deer named Elvis.
Any thing from Don Thomas and Camp Fire Reflections are a must but if you only have one in your collection, make it Bows of the Little Delta. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
I guess your list depends on whether your main interest is shooting history or hunting. I would agree with most of above but add BOWHUNTING RUTTING WHITETAILS or if you can't find that one ONE MAN"S WHITETAIL or if you can't find that one either get COME NOVEMBER
Plenty of good suggestions here--I'd like to add a few (by the way I'd have a very tough time limiting it to five): Man Made of Elk by Dave Petersen (then read the rest of his books), Hunting From Home by Christopher Camuto, and An Archer's Inner Life by Dave Sigurslid.
Don't forget Coyote Soul Raven Heart by the man who's post is above mine....
this is just awesome guys...much appreciated!

2-The Witchery of Archery by Thompson
3-Fred Bear's Field Notes by Fred Bear
4-Hunting the Hard Way by Howard Hill
5-Sagittarius by Bob Swinehart
Some great suggestions, A couple I would add would be Straight Shooting by John Schulz and The Traditional Way by Fred Anderson. Try to read them all! Greg
