I have only been shooting trad for a fairly short time, recently my skill has been really improving. Today I decided to try to ambush a ground hog...I have harvested at least 3 deer every year with my compound and I rarely got shook up at the shot; I had the ground hog at about 10 yards which would have been a gimmie on the hay bale, when I drew on him my heart almost pounded out of my chest and my legs felt weak and I started to panic about picking my "spot", I let the arrow fly and just burned his bottom!
I was dissapointed but at the same time it was the biggest rush I have had hunting and I loved it, I never dreamed that it would be so different than with my compound. Have any of you had a similar experience?
i have been bowhunting all my life i am just 22 year but for as long as i remember i have been a bowhunter with a compound and killed just about every thing that walks in the state of oklahoma i also rarely got shook up at the shoot i mine when i was youger i did but not in the last 4 year but in 2007 i was going to shoot my recurve all summer get as good as i could hopefully shoot a deer and call that good and go back to a compound well the first time i had 3 doe walk in my heart rate was about 200 and i missed i was hooked the next time i missed a buck i had been looking at for about 2 mouths in the summer i had buck come in out of range for me and my recurve doe did the same but i never said man i whish i had my compound i took only one deer with my recurve 2007 least kills in a one year that i have had in a long time but man o man the best year in bowhunting i have ever had i would sale my compound if it did not have some many kills on it i guess i will keep it for a wall hanger
Welcome to traditional bowhunting, it's an addicting habit.
I love the rush I get hunting with stickbows.
aim small miss small
sounds good, but when that shot is going to occur and your heart is going 200 mile a hour. some times the arrow does not good where your eye is looking...
BIll
I know what you mean, I missed one last week for the same reason!!
Yes I think we all have the same feelings here. I tell alot of my friend that shoot compounds " you just dont understand" There is just something about this that is fantastic to say the least. Welcome! :campfire:
