Okay guys...what is the best bowstringer for heavy bows (85# and up)? I have used several but nothing works very well for my straight ended longbows.

Justin, you buy the longhunter I sent you pics of , and I will send you a stringer with it that will do the trick ..... whatcha think ?
lol, Froggy
I recommend the Selway limbsaver stringer. It has the rubber "block" that doesn't grab the limb tip. I had a buffalo horn nock shear off and think that this Selway is a better design. I only shoot a 61# bow but I can't imagine you would have a problem.
Ummmmm. I am thinking about it. What are you looking to buy? About 15 years ago, I hunted once with a young guy who shot one of those. We were walking a treestrip and he shot the biggest buck I had ever seen ON THE RUN at 46 yards with that bow! The buck went about 25 yards and died. I could not believe it. The bow was all beat to death from years of use. How much are you asking?
justin
What type of stringer do you have? I keep having my top limb pop out of the pocket of the stringer and one of these days, it's gonna take my eye out!!!
We sell the Selways, and they are fantastic stringers, but for a bow as heavy as yours I'd suggest the Webster.
Justin, sent you pics.......
I used the Webster for a couple of months and the damn lower pocket wore out. I was not real impressed. I stiched her back up and it wore out again. The top limb of my straight limbed longbow just slips right out of the pocket and that is pretty dangerous. Maybe I need to buy another one.

Are we talking about wood bows here or glass bows ? I'd never use a block stringer (again) on a wood bow. Can we say "hinge". Don't ask how I know that.On my wood bows that I have made in heavier weights, I cut double nocks on ene end and use a homemade string that has a pocket on one end (sewn from heavy webbing) and the other end just a loop tied on that slips into the extra nock. Works very well
i push pull my longbows up to 110#. however the bows i have 68 inches and longer 95#and up i use a webster. i dont have long enough arms (to get good leverage) to push pull the heavier longer (68 inches plus) longbows. i have never had a webster wear out on me. i have had the same one for over 5 years now without a problem!
Warrior asked me to send some pics of the stringer I mentioned above, so I'll post here so all can see what I'm talking about

I sewed the pocket out of webbing with a grommet added for strength. Lacking that ability, you could make it from a piece of heavy leather and hand sew it. The grommet sterngth could be duplicated by taking the cord thru and around the leather pocket just like most longbow stringers are done. The opposite end is nothing but a loop tied in the cord.
I pretty much agree with Tim (Slobow) on the webster-I use it on bows up to 78# with no problems bit I inserted a piece of very small vacuum tubing in the pockets to reinforce the bottom and keep the wear down. That also gives me a little more clearance for sliding the top string loop into position. The Selway is probably the safest stringer around in regard to getting the string in place without any danger of it not being seated well and the bow unstringing itself and damaging a limb or the user but they are tougher to use on the heavier bows. I only have real experience with laminated recurves so I might not be much help. Grant
I'm 55 yrs old and don't have the "guns" Newell has so any longbow up around 60#, I have to use the stringer. Maybe it's just that my arms are too short :biglaugh:
Using a Selway with heavy bows will grow hair on your chest! But you probably wouldn't have the energy to shoot the dang bow after stringing it! ;)
