Title: Advice, please
Post by: John Nail on May 03, 2008, 08:26:00 AM
I ordered a new recurve last year from a well known company in Colorado. Sent the money, and at first I got a lot of excuses and promises, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get the bow. I can't reach the guy by phone, and emails go unanswered. Am I screwed for $457, or is there a legal path?

Sounds like a problem I had with a different company that I wont mention the name of.

Not sure the legal path you can take but best of luck bud!

Send a registered letter with your concerns and phone number. Let him know that failure to respond to you within X number of days will result in you contacting your states attorney and his. Make copies of all receipts and correspondence. Make a log of all contacts and attempt at contact. Let him know that you will let everyone you know about the problem if it isn't resolved ASAP and to your liking.

You have a PM John.

John I assume you sent the money (check, mo etc) by mail right ? Might be some mail fraud issues here. Might ask about it at the PO.If you sent it via credit card you might have recourse thru the CC company.Several years ago I bought a brass bed from a guy. He was to refinish it as part of the deal. The bed was way too long in coming. I contacted the county prosecutor in his county. The prosecutor was all over it and I got the bed in short order.BTW, you're a better man than me. I would have already outed the guy.

I understand you want to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but why are we not all being told who this company is so we can avoid the same problem.  Man this type of stuff burns me.  I would drive out there and get my money back face to face, if gas wasn't 4bucks a gallon.

As far as legal action I don't think you can pursue anything criminal, you would have to pursue it in civil court.

Good luck John, I'd heard he quit selling them on the auction site cause he couldn't keep up with all the orders. Hope he comes through for ya. It's a name I'd hate to see hurt.

I agree, if they don't communicate with you, let people know.  Just state the facts.  Have you called, e-mailed,  getting the run around?   Bad business and customer service does not deserve the hush up.

Barney, me too. I believe in giving people every opportunity to make things right. I will post the details (if Terry will allow it) when I'm sure it's a lost cause.

Couldn't you post it freely in the product review forum? Good luck.
