Folks, the Howard Hill Classic has always been a Multi-Round format event.  The first round on Friday could be your highest round, OR, it could be your last round on Sunday.   :archer:

You can improve your score on every round, or not.  Your highest round will be counted for your competition for the HH Classic awards given out on Sunday afternoon.

NOW, your first round and ONLY your first round will be counted to see if you qualify for the Championship Shoot Down on Saturday afternoon.

We'll take the top 15 Men for each division and the top 10 Women for their division for qualification.  Men's Seniors and Super Seniors are combined.   :archer2:

The 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners of each division will then shoot ONE ARROW for this year's American Traditional Archer's "TOP SHOT" award.   :clapper:

I know there ae many all around the country, but here in the South East, here's just a few.

TBOF's Spring Shoot, Tennessee's Pre Spring Arrow Fling, Kentucky Trad Fest, Alabama Society of Traditional Bowmen has a couple coming up, Twin Oaks Classic, Texas Longbow Championship and I'm sure there are others.   :clapper:

Hopefully we can make them all.    :archer2:

For those that have attended the Howard Hill Classic over the years, I started the Championship Shoot Down somewhere around the forth year.

Over the years I've made a few changes, from a plaque on the first one, to giving the Men & Women winners Howard Hill bows from the Howard Hill Archery Co.

A couple of years ago, I started, along with Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, giving cash awards to the Men & Women winners, and at that time the winners were a combination of recurve and longbow competitors.

I have since separated the recurve and longbow shooters for the Men & Women and given them their own Championship Shoot Down, AND, Rhonda started a "Luck of the Draw"shoot down for those that don't qualify for the Championship Shoot Downs.

THIS YEAR, Three Rivers Archery is sponsoring another "Championship Shoot Down" for Seniors & Super Seniors".   :clapper:

Folks, this is a total of SIX SHOOT DOWNS!!   :clapper:   :archer2:

Along with these shoot downs as well as Raffles, I believe the Howard Hill Classic has something for everyone!   :bigsmyl:

Looking forward to seeing everyone here again this year.

Ya know, I've been thinking about this new Shoot Down for the Seniors and Super Seniors. You Longbow & Recurve shooters should be excited because some of the Old Timers have been kicking butt and taking names, LOL.

Kidding aside, there will certainly be some new shooters getting to go for some cash.

And for the men, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners will also be shooting for the "TOP SHOT" award.

NINE shooters will be shooting one arrow for the American Traditional Archer's "TOP SHOT". Should be exciting folks!!!   :clapper:

Folks, just heard from a gentleman who has been in traditional archery for years.  Going back to the Creek Archery days and the Howard Hill World Longbow Championship here in Alabama.

He's planning on being here with ALL SORTS of bows he built (both longbows & recurves), bow forms, arrow shafts, etc.  He says all this has been in a climate controlled environment and is in great condition.

He said he isn't trying to make a killing and make someone extremely happy with these items, he's wanting to clean all his things out before he and his wife sell their home.

If anyone is interested, please PM me and I'll give you his phone number.

BTW, I haven't forgotten the American Eagle award for the "TOP SHOT" at the Championship Shoot Downs.  They should be delivered sometime by the end of this month.

I'll post a photo as soon as I can.

Folks, since I started the "Championship Shoot Down" many years ago, several changes have taken place.

Last year the Men's and Women's Long & Recurves were separated and this year the Men's Seniors and Super Seniors will have their own Shoot Down.

I've given this a lot of thought and feel like the Men's Self Bow should also have their own Championship Shoot Down as well.

I'm talking with a very well know Self Bow maker for next year's sponsorship, but this year, I will sponsor this myself.

As all other winners, there will be $300 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place winner.

ALRIGHT you self bow shooters, get ready to show your stuff.

Folks, I've had some very good fortune hosting the Howard Hill Classic traditional archery event here in Alabama over the last 17 years.  I've also met some outstanding people and made some lifelong friends.

A couple of years ago, a gentleman came to the Howard Hill Classic first his first time.   Obviously he had a pretty good time.   Last year helped me by donating a quite large sum of money to go toward the Men's Championship Shoot Down.  :archer2:

Well, this year, this very fine gentleman is financing the Men's Self Bow Championship Shoot Down, in it's entirety.  This gentleman's name is Randy Knight, an Navy Veteran, and I am proud to call him my friend.

Thank you sir and thank you for your service. :clapper:

Let's expand on the raffles for a minute.  I am sure i will be having some raffle packages like I have had in the past.

I'll also be raffling off a Bow from Bivouac Bows and Black Widow Bow Co. The Bivouac Bow, I'll have to check with Jim Belcher to see what bow he will be donating, will be a playing card raffle as well as the Black Widow Bow.

NOW, as for the Black Widow Bow.  The winner will get their choice of a Standard Recurve or Two Piece Longbow, either in Autumn Oak, Green Leaf or Gray Bark for both.  If the winner wants any upgrades, they must pay themselves.

Folks, everything is costing more & more these days.  Travel expenses have gone up along with everything else.

Cost have gone up for me as well, the Park rental, targets, awards, t-shirts, well, we all get the point, right!?

I know this isn't much, BUT, I am reducing the the all day rate, the weekend rates for singles and for the family rate to at least help a little.

After all, we are Americans, and we WILL persevere.

Hope to see y'all in a few weeks.

Well folks, I just read on a Traditional Archery site that some Club has canceled their archery event, very suddenly and no reasons.

Most are speculating that high prices for everything has caused this.

Let me also add, I am not a club nor am I an organization.  I started the Howard Hill Classic by myself over 17 years ago and were it not for my wife and a few friends helping me, I couldn't have done it.

Many people think I make a tremendous amount of money doing this event, I DO NOT!!

I had a Vendor tell me, several years ago, how much it cost him to come to my event and he hoped the weather turned out good so he could make some money.

I normally don't tell my business here, BUT, I feel compelled to do so here today.

Normally, before anyone ever flings an arrow at the Howard Hill Classic, I have already spent thousands of dollars, YES, you read that right.   I pre-order t-shirts, plaques, targets (when necessary), make several trips to Tannehill, rent a cabin (many times over the years, didn't use it, let my older friends use it), AND, I also have to rent the Farley Field area in the Park.

I told you this, to let you know what I told the Vendor.  He, as well as anyone, has the luxury of making the call, not to come, I DON'T AND HAVE NEVER MADE THAT CHOICE.

During the Pandemic, I didn't cancel, like nearly every archery event in the country did, I did however, postpone it and trust me, it hurt my attendance dramatically.

Folks, if you can make it to this year's Howard Hill Classic, I am truly grateful and will do my best to see you have a great time.

If you can't make it because of financial difficulties during these trying times, I understand.

I HOPE YOU MAKE IT.

Thanks so much PossumHead

Folks, for those of you that are looking forward to getting to the 18th Howard Hill Classic, traditional archery event here in Alabama, June 3rd, 4th & 5th, 2022.  I'd like to do a quick recap of what will be going on.

First, the HH Classic is a multi round event with your highest round you shoot counting toward the Award Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.  In othr words, your 1st round or your last round could put you in the Award hunt.  Your 1st round card turned in will let you know if you qualify for the Championship Shoot Down on Saturday evening.

NOW, for the Championship Shoot Downs and Rhonda's "Luck of the Draw Shoot Down" for non-qualifiers.  There will be approximately $4,00.00 paid out as well as a couple of bows from Bear Archery.

The Target Range opens at 6 AM on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and you can register any time you arrive.  The Range shuts down at 5 PM on Friday & Saturday and 11 AM on Sunday. The last round can be started at those times.

A food Vendor will be on Site from Friday afternoon through Lunch on Sunday, great food with very reasonable prices.

PLUS there will be raffles going on with all sorts of items, not too mention a Bow from Bivouac Bow Co. and a Black Widow Bow.  All proceeds from these raffles are donated to the Camp I use adjacent to Tannehill State Park.

Folks, this Camp truly benefits the HH Classic, because most of the Targets I place are normally on this Camp property.

Over the years while hosting the Howard Hill Classic, I have used raffles, not just for this Camp, BUT, The Wounded Warrior Project and Children's Harbor, here in Alabama, thus far nearly $55,000.00.

Hope to See you all here.
