Title: Does UB800 play well with Ipe?
Post by: knuklhed on December 24, 2021, 04:21:54 PM
I was gifted a couple planks of Ipe left over from a deck project, so of course I want to use it in a bow. Is UB800 a good match for that wood? Any tips? Glue up when it is fresh off the drum sander, wipe with alcohol, etc.?    thanks!!

And to all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I have not used unibond for any bow, but it's good adhesive and I bet it would bond well with Ipe.
You are going to get the full spectrum of prep rituals here. Go with what makes you feel lucky. For me, fresh sanded surface, meticulously blown off with dry compressed air.

All I use is unibond800 on my all wood bows.

Sand it, blow off dust with air compressor, wipe with clean cloth dampened with denatured alcohol. Don't touch the surface with your fingers after that.
